Changes to SL Profiles & Farewell to Kirstens Viewer

Sad Farewell to Kirstens Viewer

I haven’t done a Love Thursday post in a while. I think this is the perfect time for it, my Love Thursday today is definitely Kirstens Viewer! <3

For over a year now I have been a strong supporter of Kirstens Viewer, writing many posts about it in the past. Kirstens has been my go to viewer for all my photography. Almost all of the images you see on my blog and flickr in the past year have been taken with Kirstens. It works the best for me for shadows, depth of field and now mesh. I am extremely sad to hear about its discontinuation. But I do understand and I wish them both well. Thank you so much for all the work you put into the viewer, we all greatly appreciate it! <3

I do however hope that someone sets out to create a viewer that is specifically designed for photography as Kirstens was. I will hold on to the last release for as long as I can until I feel I must update. I am so happy I have the latest version S21 build 9 (which supports mesh) downloaded and it works well as I don't see it available for download anywhere now, not even on the Kirstens download page or on this page. Am I missing it?

SL Profile Changes

Since my last post about the SL profiles, there’s been a few changes to them, which I thought I’d talk about. Since yesterday these have been the changes that were implemented:

Follow or Friend: If you go to my SL profile and if you are not on my friend list, you should see a follow or friend button now. This means you are able to follow anyone’s feed that you like, without the need to friend them. As I mentioned in my post before, I don’t mind if you guys wish to friend me at all, in fact I welcome it. But I do understand that some people prefer to keep their friend list inworld small. So now we have the option to just follow those we may be feeling too shy about friending. Yesterday I went on a major follow spree and followed some of my favorite Lindens, bloggers and content creators. Kind of feel like a stalker now, but I think it’s all good! :P

More Privacy Options: This is the part that I love the most! If you go into “settings” and then the “privacy” tab you will see two options for your feed now. First option is the setting for “who can see your profile feed and your posts” there are four different settings for that. I know a lot of people had concerns about having the feed and have completely turned it off by setting it to nobody. However, I think it can be a very useful feature for content creators. If you set it to everyone, every time you do a release you can announce it on your feed just by adding a few words about it and then linking to your blog post or flickr. It’s a great way to let your customers (that may look up your profile for various reasons) know that you have released new items.

The other option for the feed is down at the bottom and this is the important one. You may or may not want to give the ability to people to write on your feed. You can completely turn it off and turn your profile feed into your own personal announcement feed. I think it’s a brilliant idea for content creators who may not want their customers leaving all sorts of comments on their profiles, but could easily still use their feed the way they see fit.

So far I am loving these changes and look forward to seeing more great developments in the SL profiles. Right now I use my feed mainly to announce blog posts but I do occasionally read my friend’s feeds and input my thoughts here and there. I look forward to seeing more and more people using the profiles and interacting more on there. Remember, feel free to friend or follow me if you like!

Can you please vote for me?
Can you please vote for me?

Finally I just wanted to end this post off with a big thank you those that have been voting for me for the about.me contest on a daily basis. Also a big thank you to Linden Lab for tweeting my contest post. I believe I am in the top 5% now with 524 votes. The contest runs till September 20th and you can vote once a day. I would love it if you can take some time today to just hit that vote button for me. Thank you! <3

Kari Komrad Hud Contest

Kari Contest

So it’s time for me to enter another contest! :D As I’m sure you’ve noticed I am a contest addict. I think during my four years in SL I have entered literally hundreds of contest and contrary to popular belief I have only won nine of them! I love entering contests because it really gives me the opportunity to push myself to better my skills. And every time I don’t win a contest, I just tell myself to try harder next time. Just a few days ago I submitted a photo for the Hair Fair contest, which ends on the 19th btw so don’t forget to enter!

Now I’ve decided to try my hand at the Kari Komrad Hud Contest. This contest is actually very different for me because I’m used to photoshopping my pictures like mad for contests. This contest however, you’re not allowed to do that. So it was definitely a bit tricky and different for me but I really wanted to push myself and try it. I’m pretty satisfied with the results I got with these two pics so far, however we are allowed to submit as many pictures as we want so I am definitely planning to do a lot more, especially now that I have the hang of this hud and find it quite fascinating!

The first thing you want to do is actually pick up the hud itself, it’s only L$500 on the marketplace, (then you can leave a detailed and informative review for it like I did :D) or you can also find it at the Kari mainstore. Then check out this awesome and funny video to learn how to use it. I am embedding it below but you can also find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6wbw1wSaHA

The hud is actually very simple to use and it adds so much more creativity to your inworld snapshots. You are going to have a lot of fun with this, so definitely try it out. The contest ends on June 30th and the prizes are pretty sweet too, L$5000 for each category and there are three categories to submit your pictures in. I think for the two I’ve done here, I’ll go for Candid and Landscape. I’ve got a few ideas for the Minimalism category but still figuring it out. Kinda excited to try it! :D And check out the flickr group, people have already submitting. I really love this one so far.

Kari Contest

While we’re on the topic of huds, I thought I’d mention it in this post as well since I used it for the first picture. People are always asking me how I get my eyes to focus on the camera in my pictures, well before I would rez a prim and have myself look at it by alt-clicking and then I would get my alt to take the picture. It was quite the ordeal and I still do that whilst shooting clients. However, recently Mr. James Schwarz of the Slipsters plurked this awesome auto focus hud. For some reason it’s been taken down from the marketplace where I originally purchased it from but I did hunt it down in the gi poses mainstore today. Here’s the slurl to where the hud is at and here’s a picture of the vendor to give you an idea of what it does. Basically you just wear the hud, don’t need to rez anything so it can be done on any sim, and then just use the hud to position your eyes. It’s every photographers dream so if you don’t have it, definitely go pick it up!

UPDATE: I just noticed the hud is back on marketplace! YAY https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/gi-poses-Auto-Focus/2250209

Good luck in the contest! <3

I am Shaggable

Strawberry Singh - I am Shaggable

I must apologize for the title and the abundance of nudity in this post, these pics are for the “I am Shaggable” contest, details here.

But forget about the nudity and my bare ass, what I really want you to concentrate on is my hands. Are you lookin at them? What do you see? That’s right, I DON’T HAVE JAZZ HANDS! LOL sorry it’s just a little pet peeve of mine. Every time I see a picture on the feeds or flickr with the person’s fingers all spread out, I die a little inside. Jazz hands can happen at anytime in SL. It happens to me often if I am switching poses around or putting on prim nails. Here is a great little tool to use to get rid of the jazz hands syndrome and it’s only L$1 on marketplace. It’s the +Fickle+ Hand reset gesture by Saya Littlething. With just a click it brings your hand back into a natural resting position. I hope all of the bloggers invest in this and we don’t ever have to see jazz hands again. (Unless of course it’s done on purpose and goes with the theme of the photo).

Strawberry Singh - I am Shaggable

BTW, I am in love with this store called Trashy Girls. I went on a shopping spree and will be blogging more stuff from there very soon. :D
