Second Life Vlogger Challenge!

Second Life Vlogger Challenge!

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of my blogger challenges so I thought this would be a great time to encourage all of you to try your hand at Second Life vlogging. It was last year, April 4, 2016, when I did my Dancing in Second Life challenge and encouraged everyone to participate and start creating videos about Second Life and uploading them to youtube. So now in 2017 I am bringing it back, with a bit of a different idea.

Challenge instructions: Share a video of your avatar in Second Life introducing yourself, talking a little bit about what you do in SL, how long you’ve been here, what you plan to share on your youtube channel and any other information you’d like to share. Or if you don’t want to talk in the video you can just dance, explore SL or do any kind of video you feel like doing, just make sure it is about Second Life. I encourage everyone to try and share their video on youtube, but you are free to upload it to flickr, vimeo or anywhere else you prefer. Then come back to this post and leave a link to your video in the comments so we can all click over to see and subscribe to your channel. Please remember to add the words “Second Life” in your tags or description on youtube so it comes up when people search for Second Life related content on youtube.

So here is my Second Life Vlogger Challenge video on YouTube:

I really hope you participate in this challenge. Here are some helpful links to get you started on your video:

  1. How to use OBS Studio to record or live Stream Second LifeIf you want to capture video in Second Life and not sure how to do it, click over to my tutorial that I just did today about capturing and creating video in Second Life using OBS Studio. OBS Studio is completely free to use and I go through step by step on how to set it up and get streaming or recording in Second Life and uploading to youtube.
  2. Linden Lab Snapshot and machinima policyThere are certain rules that Linden Lab has put in place that you need to be aware of before you start shooting video at different locations. If the convenant of the sim does not mention snapshots at all, then you are free to take as many pictures as you like there. However, if it doesn’t mention machinima (video) at all, then you must ask permission from the sim owner first before shooting your video at that location. I sincerely request sim owners to please take a moment right now and put in your convenants that you allow snapshots and machinima, to make it easier on vloggers who like to explore and shoot. Thank you!
  3. Machinima Friendly SimsThe generously talented team at the Blogger and Vlogger Network has setup a page where they share Photogenic Second Life locations and beside their names they have noted some information about them including if they are Machinima (video) friendly. So if you are looking for a beautiful sim to shoot at, click over to take a look at that list, they’ve made it so easy for us.
  4. YouTube Audio LibraryYou want to be careful what kind of music you are adding to your videos because if you use something that is copyrighted, youtube may delete or mute your video. Whenever I add music to my videos, I make sure it is safe to use and most of the time I get it from the YouTube Audio Library.

If you enjoy watching videos about Second Life and looking for more SL vloggers to follow, keep an eye on the comments of this blog post and subscribe to those that share their links. Also click over to my subscriptions page on my youtube channel, I try and subscribe to as many Second Life residents as I find on youtube, you’ll find more people to subscribe to over there.

Just remember, there is no time limit to this blog challenge, or any of my blog challenges. You can do it today, tomorrow, next week, next month or next year. But I do hope you do it soon because I’d love to see it! Happy vlogging!
