Weekly Roundup and Friday Find: Cold Ash Sim

Exploring Second Life: Cold Ash Sim

Friday Find: Cold Ash Sim

Cold Ash is not only my favorite mens store in Second Life, but the Cold Ash sim itself was recently decorated by the dirty.pretty team. I love the work that the dirty.pretty team does so I wanted to take do a live tour of the new sim today. I’ve previously blogged Cloudbreak and Erebos Harbor that were also designed by the dirty.pretty team. One of the team members gave me some information about the Cold Ash sim:

We’ve created a rugged, frosted late-fall early-winter themed mountainous region, inspired by the shorelines of huge lakes and forested peaks. On sim there is an extensive railway with a great iron bridge spanning between two island, leading from a mountain tunnel through to a lumber yard with a warehouse and a busy mechanics garage.
Our intention with this build, working with Cold Ash, was to create an on-brand shopping destination – where clothing can be purchased, and then enjoyed, photographed and blogged from the same environment.

Here’s the SLurl to the Cold Ash Sim.

Watch my live tour on my YouTube channel later today:

Weekly Roundup

  • Are you a couple that met in Second Life?: Draxtor Despres is working on a special Valentine’s Day video profiling three couples who fell in love through Second Life and stayed together. He’s looking for couples to participate in this special feature. The deadline for choosing the protagonists is January 18th, so if you are interested in participating, feel free to get in contact with him inworld or reply to his posts on the Second Life community forums or Twitter.

  • Linden Lab is working on an IOS Client: I thought some of you might be interested that it has been confirmed the Lab is working on an IOS client for Second Life. You can read all about the details on Inara Pey’s blog.
  • One Billion Rising in Second Life: On February 14th, 2019 it will be the seventh year for One Billion Rising in Second Life, which is an event that creates awareness for violence against women. Click here if you would like to volunteer to support the event, click here if you would like to report on the event as a member of the press, or click here if you would like to create an art installation for the event.
  • What makes you keep “playing”/using Second Life?: Someone recently asked this question on the Second Life subreddit and I thought it was an interesting one. Some people answered it was because of the income they make here, others said their friends and then others liked to explore. For me, I think it’s a combination of things as well, however I have to be honest, if I wasn’t blogging regularly about Second Life, I don’t think I would login as regularly. So for me, definitely this blog is what makes me login so often.  So what keeps you logging in?
  • Buzzfeed Quiz of the Week: I kind of missed doing these. This week I went with: this Beautiful Color Test Can Determine Your Dominant Personality Trait. Here’s my result, what’s yours?

Strawberry

Strawberry has been a Second Life Resident since 2007 and a Linden Lab employee since 2019.

  • I got kindness for the color quiz.

And for me, SL is my outlet and escape from RL “crap”… if it wasn’t for my friends and being able to create or blog, I probably wouldn’t log into SL often. It’s a way for me to do stuff that I can’t do in RL and/or don’t have the courage to do…so friends and being creative keeps me going.

    Great post! <3

  • Zero Upshaw

Wisdom here… not sure what to make of that. If I were that wise I would probably not end up in so many arguments about being a smartass XD

  • iOS app?!? Finally!!!

What keeps me logging in: i create stuff, i get inspiration, sl keeps and helps me be more creative. This hasn’t changed since 2007 (been in sl since 5 feb 2007). I must say, though, that i didn’t like shopping until mesh finally came out! I have been away from SL for a while, now i’m back we have bento!! How amazing!!
