Linden Endowment for the Arts Announces Hiatus

Winter2000

The Linden Endowment of the Arts (LEA) was established to help create a center of arts activity in Second Life. It is a collaborative venture between Linden Lab and the arts community. Through its exhibitions, programs, and events, the LEA fosters awareness of artists’ contributions to our virtual world and encourages others to get involved and be inspired. I have featured art installations on LEA sims on this blog and my YouTube channel in the past.

Now, after 7 years, LEA has announced a hiatus for restructuring. On January 1st, 2019, the LEA will be temporarily closing its Artists in Residence regions (LEA 10 – 29) to allow for a major restructuring.

The nine Core regions (which include the Theatre, the Sandbox, and Photohunt) will remain for the present, and short-term grants will still be available in these regions for community-inspired arts projects. Applications for Core regions can be found at this link.

Discussions between the present committee and Linden Lab about the future form of the LEA are ongoing, but it is anticipated that there will be a new organizing committee when the AiR regions re-open.

That’s all the information about this restructuring that I have for now. I’ll let you know of any updates and when they will be back from hiatus as soon as I find out.

Since the Artists in Residence regions will be closed starting January 1st, I highly recommend you guys visit those regions before then. There are a few art installations currently running at the moment. The images in this post were taken at  Zun Design at LEA15.

I have also done a live stream at the LEA welcome area and LEA15, watch live on my YouTube channel:

I hope by using the word, “Restructuring”, it isnt a euphemism for withdrawing its funding. That would be sad. One of the reasons I went Premium was to support the arts in SL.

  • An Artist in SL

@CheriColette if you know how mismanaged the LEA committee currently is you would see that this needed to happen. LL stepped in a few years ago due to the same ongoing drama that is part of the current committee. There are perhaps 1 or 2 persons on the current committee who actually care about helping artists. The rest are toxic wannabe despots who are full of nepotism and 0 help for artists.

  • I agree with Cheri. What a shock. The arts are at the core of virtual worlds. Big thank yous go out to all of the individuals involved in managing the LEA sims

  • Never trust the comments of someone not willing to sign there name :D.
    That’s my comment.

Thanks Berry — and you look lovely and very wintry.
