Lookbook Cosmetics HUD

Bento Nails

Now there is a new way to shop for Cosmetics, from the comfort of your Second Life home. LookBook is a FREE Cosmetics HUD which will be released on the 27th of each month. The HUD will be sent out in their free update group, or for free on marketplace, as well as in the main store/update groups of some of their participating brands. This May they have more than 25 brands participating.

Using the fully functional HUD, you can see the selection of cosmetics offered each month, try the DEMOs and purchase the items directly through the HUD without teleporting anywhere. You can also take a look at the shopping guide for May on their website before checking out the HUD. I love that their shopping guide has the prices listed as well.

I’ve made a short video showing how to use the HUD, you can watch it on YouTube:

After playing with the HUD a bit, I do have a few suggestions for the LookBook team. These are just things that I would love to see added to the HUD in the future:

  1. I feel like the HUD is very small and it’s hard to see all of the details on the vendor ads. I would love to see an option to resize the HUD.
  2. An option to minimize the HUD would make things more convenient, especially when we’re trying on the DEMOs. We won’t have to remove the HUD to see the DEMOs properly, just minimize it.
  3. I don’t always feel comfortable allowing access to my lindens. Finding a way to pay in a different way would put me more at ease about purchasing.
  4. Having the price of the item on the HUD somewhere would make it easier to decide if we want to purchase before allowing access to our lindens.

That’s all the suggestions I have for now. I do feel it’s a great start and I’m looking forward to checking out what they have in future months.

UPDATE:¬†Some of the members of the LookBook team have reached out to me and let me know that they are in the process of working on some updates for the HUD including minimizing, resizing, name plates and there will be a terminal shoppers can pay to add a balance along with gift cards as well. This is great news!!! Can’t wait to check it out next month, thanks guys!

ZOZ Bento Nails

I also wanted to give you guys a glimpse of the ZOZ Bento Nails. They work very well with the Maitreya and SLink bodies. They also have options for other bodies I believe. You just hide the nails on your body and then wear the ZOZ Bento Nails. They are rigged to bento bones so will move along with any bento animations. You can also purchase different kinds of gems and polishes from them. Pick up a free DEMO of the bento nails in their mainstore as well as their marketplace store. I’ve also been told that these nails will be open to 3rd party appliers in the future. So for those of you that want to create polishes and gems for these nails, feel free to contact the creator about the dev kit.

UPDATE: Please note that I wore the ZOZ Bento tips incorrectly in the video. The tips were actually rigged to be worn over the ZOZ Bento nails. For ladies who love the french tip and often wish their favorite design or colors were available in french. The designer is also working on a dev kit for those as well.

Offtopic, I was also playing with the Live Portrait Maker that everyone has been playing with these days so I thought I’d share my Portrait. It was fun! If you play with it, link your portrait in the comments.

  • sure makes life a lil easier in SL for cosmetics…wish cosmetic makers in SL would make more eyeshadows in Omega layers since i have a LAQ head…just a suggestion if they read your blog…btw thankies for the tips on photography…helped a ton <3

  • I agree with your suggestions Strawberry.

@Jenica … many cosmetic designers won’t do Omega as they say because Omega heads are all different they have no way of controlling how the end-product will look on them thus opening themselves up to unhappy customers when it doesn’t look right on their particular head.

Also, Omega appliers may be a thing of the past when this is implemented.

  • Hii, I know you mentioned the skin, head, shape and everything but I would really love to know what hair this is please, if you wouldn’t mind? Thank you so much

  • Nevermind, I’m fully retarded tonight D; lol
