#SecondLifeChallenge – Love & Dating in Second Life

#SecondLifeChallenge - Love & Dating in Second Life

For this week’s #SecondLifeChallenge, I decided to go with a Valentine’s Day theme and ask some questions about love and dating in Second Life. A big thank you to the residents that suggested and inspired some of these questions.

Here are the instructions for the #SecondLifeChallenge this week: Answer the following questions and don’t forget to leave a link to your answers in the comments!

  1. Do you date in Second Life?
  2. Share some locations in Second Life that you think are ideal to go to on a date.
  3. Share a story of one of your favorite dates/proposals you’ve experienced in Second Life, or something someone has done for you that meant a lot.
  4. Have you ever fallen in love in Second Life?
  5. Have you ever gotten partnered or married in Second Life?

These are my answers to the questions:

  1. Do you date in Second Life? – I don’t date in Second Life.
  2. Share some locations in Second Life that you think are ideal to go to on a date. – A friend asked me about this the other day and I was stumped, I had no answer. I haven’t dated in Second Life in a while so I had no idea where people can go on a date and if there were any fun activities people can do so I asked my friends on plurk and they really came through so click over for some interesting ideas. Some activities that were mentioned that seemed interesting to me were: sailing, riding horses, bowling, ballroom dancing, kart racing, surfing, and going to art galleries/exhibits. There are specific locations also mentioned in the plurk along with more ideas.
  3. Share a story of one of your favorite dates/proposals you’ve experienced in Second Life, or something someone has done for you that meant a lot. – Back in 2012, my current partner in Second Life, Prad Prathivi, gave me one of the most thoughtful birthday presents I’ve ever received. He setup a whole social media quest which took me and my plurk friends around 5 hours to complete. It was hilariously frustrating and so much fun, even though I never figured out even one riddle on my own and needed help to get through all of them lol. I wrote about it in my blog post at this link if you’d like to go back and read the plurks where we’re trying to figure out all the riddles from the quest.
  4. Have you ever fallen in love in Second Life? – Absolutely, with everyone.
  5. Have you ever gotten partnered or married in Second Life? – I’ve been partnered a few times (and I’m still partnered currently to a good friend) but I’ve never had an SL wedding.

I also vlogged this challenge with more details: https://youtu.be/5vVLCLzfbmQ

I did today’s vlog and picture at Backdrop City in the new YouTube section. Mia has created a special Strawberry-themed area there, click over and check it out.

You don’t have to have a blog to do this challenge, you can do it on any social media platform or vlog on youtube. Just don’t forget to tag your post with #SecondLifeChallenge and then leave the link to your post in the comments of this post.

Please remember there is no time limit to do this challenge, you can participate in any #SecondLifeChallenge at any time. You’ll find them all under my Blog Challenges category along with other memes and challenges I’ve done over the years. I’ve also started a #SecondLifeChallenge playlist on my YouTube channel.

Also, back in December I did the Unspoken Rules challenge and an AI researcher applied neural transhancement to the video I did for the challenge, to make me look real and I thought it was so creepy cool. Click over to his tweet and check it out, I’ll also embed it below:

It was so interesting I had to share. Thanks for reading, I’m looking forward to your posts!

Do you date in Second Life?
    No
Share some locations in Second Life that you think are ideal to go to on a date.
Shakti Gardens, if I were dating.
Share a story of one of your favorite dates/proposals you’ve experienced in Second Life, or something someone has done for you that meant a lot.
my Owner took me to the Ko ro ba Valentine’s Ball and danced with me, which he apparently has not done often.
Have you ever fallen in love in Second Life?
Yes, very much so. In fact, met my Owner in SL on March 20th, 2015. By July 15th, 2015, I was on a plane across country to be with him offline. I have been here with him ever since.
Have you ever gotten partnered or married in Second Life?
I was partnered once, but I did not understand what it was about since I had been away from SL since 2005.

  • 1. Do you date in Second Life?

Ans: Absolutely not; its against my (personal) ‘unspoken rules’.

    2. Share some locations in Second Life that you think are ideal to go to on a date.

Ans: If they absolutely ‘have to’, then anywhere on any one of the Calas Galadhon sims – a couple could get lost in the beauty of that place (and once I post this, I’ll kick myself for not thinking of such-and-such a place)

    3. Share a story of one of your favorite dates/proposals you’ve experienced in Second Life, or something someone has done for you that meant a lot.

Ans: Wish I had a great story for you, Berry, but honestly, I don’t hang around long enough for mushy stuff – when a guy starts getting serious in SL, I grab my skates and bolt. Or hide behind my blog. Or camera. Or something.

    4. Have you ever fallen in love in Second Life?

    Ans: No ma’am. I won’t allow it. I won’t! I won’t! I won’t, I tell you! haha

    5. Have you ever gotten partnered or married in Second Life?

Ans: Once. In a galaxy far, far, away…til I grabbed my skates and bolted.

  • 1. Do you date in Second Life? not anymore…i only allow friendship slow dancing and/or cuddling now
    2. Share some locations in Second Life that you think are ideal to go to on a date: i recommend nature sims ’cause you should be in quiet places to chat and get to know each other…sim i give praise to is Calas Galadhon Park with its 10 sims
    3. Share a story of one of your favorite dates/proposals you’ve experienced in Second Life, or something someone has done for you that meant a lot: a former guy i was with used to read me stories to soothe me…i always looked forward to it
    4. Have you ever fallen in love in Second Life? yes
    5. Have you ever gotten partnered or married in Second Life? partnered a few times and married once

A digital smile is a thin cloak against the cold of night.

  • 1. Do you date in Second Life?
Yes, totally. I do everything in SL that I do in RL. I don’t think that in our digital world, there is ANYTHING wrong with using a digital medium to meet people, and the level of relationship you wish to pursue should be purely down to each individual.

I’ve met a LOT of RL friends in SL, including someone I dated for about 6 months. (Which meant yes, meeting face to face, haha!)
I am registered disabled and housebound most of the time, so ‘normal’ dating doesn’t really work for me. Also I live in quite a remote part of the world, so each to his or her own, I say 🙂

    2. Share some locations in Second Life that you think are ideal to go to on a date.
This is a toughie for me because I don’t believe in ‘mainstream’ dating places for dating. I tend to think that *anywhere* you share a common interest with your intended, is just perfect.
However, there are some amazing art galleries, (if you like art) beaches, (if you like to hang out) or places to just go dancing cheek to cheek.

    3. Share a story of one of your favorite dates/proposals you’ve experienced in Second Life, or something someone has done for you that meant a lot.
Ok, this is quite a personal thing. One of my best and oldest SL friends lives in Paris. As I was planning to visit Paris one year with my then boyfriend, I arranged to meet him at our hotel, and then go to see some sights with our ‘private’ tour guide 🙂

One of the fun things he used to do in SL was play his cello for me in SL while skyping his RL playing to me, as he knew I LOVED classical music, especially the Cello Suite No.1 in G, by Bach, which was and still is, my all time favourite.
The day we met in Paris, he surprised me by bringing his cello to our hotel, setting it up in our hotel room and there we sat, in rapt attention (and awe) while he played for us, and the rest of the now silent hotel guests (we had our windows open wide, of course).
I still remember the tears streaming down my face as he finished that last long note, as they are now while I type this.

    4. Have you ever fallen in love in Second Life?
Oh, constantly. I’m an incurable romantic.

    5. Have you ever gotten partnered or married in Second Life?
I’ve been partnered a couple of times in the ten years plus, but it has to be someone very special and it (usually) ends amicably… sometimes not… as with RL.
I haven’t been married but I did make a video for a very good friend of mine who DID marry in SL. I still have it on YouTube but I shudder to see it now as it is sooooo blurry and basic, haha.

It’s here if you want to see it, but please remember, this is how SL looked in 2010, LOL!!

  • Apollo Scribe

It is a long read and it is explicit and it is my one and only proposal in SL… If anyone is interested in more, just drop me a comment.

Also this is a roleplayed partnership, both of us have an RL family and Rose’s and Apollo’s story is written and woven for our entertainment, but it has become a very moving experience. This is how that “scene” happened without any alterations.

Do you date in Second Life? Yes
Share some locations in Second Life that you think are ideal to go to on a date. http://bit.ly/2ENFoaF, http://bit.ly/2CuGJ0J, http://bit.ly/2GqSWGp
Share a story of one of your favorite dates/proposals you’ve experienced in Second Life, or something someone has done for you that meant a lot. I work for Maximillian Kleene (a musician in SL). I 2013 he won the Avi Choice Award for Best Male Singer in SL, and he gave it to me. How kind and unpretentious is that?
Have you ever fallen in love in Second Life? Yes
Have you ever gotten partnered or married in Second Life? Yes partnered twice, married twice (to the same person, although through a different avatar. Let’s just say 10.10.10 has a very special meaning to us.

  • James

Met the love of my live in SL, we got married in SL and bought a nice house and settled down. Two years later we met in RL, we were already in love so we got married in RL in a nature park in Dallas and bought a nice house and settled down where we now live the life we dreamed of in Sl.

  • Like James, I met the love of my life in 2007 in Second Life. We married in SL in April 2007. I moved from the UK to the US in 2010 and we got married in Hawaii. 11 years later … no longer in SL (although we reminisce about it often and very fondly) we are so happy to have found each other. Our story always fascinates everyone we tell.

  • Can’t believe how many of you have found love in Second Life! That’s awesome! That’s good to hear since I’ve been single since 2015 and almost lost hope… So that’s kinda encouraging. Cheers!
