There are a lot of great winter-y items in this box. We got a couple of great coats and jackets from Etham, Fatewear and L&B and the sweater from Kalback is fantastic as well. Of course the snow globe plus poses from Come Soon are brilliant too.

One thing I do want to point out about a new thing MadPea has started that I forgot to mention in the video, if you pre-ordered this month’s SwagBag, you will receive a scratch card (which is kind of like a lottery ticket) and you can scratch it to win prices. Check out MadPea’s video on youtube explaining how you can play your scratch card and where you can pick it up.

If you would like to purchase this month’s SwagBag because you didn’t sign up before the release date, it should be available for purchase at the SwagBag HQ for L$3000. The January SwagBag will also go up for sale soon at the price of L$1500, so if you didn’t purchase this month, don’t forget to do it before the release date for next month or you’ll end up paying double the price again!

I’ll be unboxing again next month, you can watch all of my Second Life Subscription Boxes unboxing videos in this YouTube PlayList.

  • I had to laugh watching this. The thing that you said was a bit too fancy for your taste (the sYs coat) is the thing that I went “Oh YES!” at when I tried it on. I’ll be wearing the hell out of that coat this winter.

It’s always great to see something that isn’t casual clothing in an event tailored specifically for male avatars. Casual is the norm for male fashion in SL – it’s everywhere – so for those of us guys who don’t always subscribe to the norm it’s good to find something that we can wear, too.

On the whole, this SwagBag was much, much better than the last two. L&B pulled a blinder again. That graffiti’d jacket took me back to my school days XD Fantastic boots (as always) from Razor, and the Eclipse Design outfit was another great one, although a colour HUD would have been much appreciated (I usually mostly wear black, but I’d make an exception for either of those two items on their own; just not together).

I liked the Minimal cuff, but a small point on that (and other cuff-style bracelets for men from other designers) is this: why do so many designers create deep, straight cuffs for male avatars? Most male avis have some muscle definition where the lower arm meets the wrist, which means that tapered cuffs are much easier to fit. I’m no slouch at editing and fitting, but I just couldn’t get the Minimal cuff to look good on Skell. If I got the top to fit perfectly, there was a wide gap at the bottom, which looked a bit odd, like it was floating.

I can’t help but feel that broader themes, such as this ‘winter’ one, are much better than more specific themes, such as ‘man cave’. They at least give the designers more scope for interpretation, which leads to a wider range of items. I still haven’t forgotten the Menswear Fashion Week of a couple of years back, where – unlike all MWFWs before and after it – the event location was themed like a tropical island. Something like 80% of designers took nothing but beachwear to the event! Considering that it’s the premier yearly male fashion event on the Grid, it was incredibly disappointing to find hundreds of Hawaiian shirts and beach shorts and precious little else, and I came away from the event having purchased… well, nothing.

Nothing worth paying 1500 for, let alone 3000, glad i resisted paying for this, its like gachas that are specifically designed to squeze every cent out of customers while giving very little back in return.

  • Hey Skell, always love your deep insights into the bag. Since I don’t use my male avatar every day, I just dress him casually and only change him once in a while lol so it’s great to hear your point of view and your take on the contents in the bag. Thanks for sharing them!
