Live and Let Live

Live and Let Live

It’s been a very long day and there is so much I want to say but I just don’t know how to word it. I’ve been in tears most of the day, upset and worried in many different ways. You may have heard about the Orlando shooting in the news today and you may also know that Orlando is the city that I live and grew up in. It’s very heartbreaking to see my Sunshine State, the place that brings happiness and joy to so many, be enveloped in mourning.

Hate and extremism can be dangerous and dividing, I wish people would see that. I wish one day I would open my eyes and the world would be completely tolerant and non-judgmental. I wish we all could just live and let live.

I’ve already done a plurk about this, but I thought I would mention some ways you can help the victims and their families if you would like to:

I’m just waiting for the day people will realize that we are all human and we are all the same, no matter what our race, religion, orientation, gender, etc… and every life is valuable and should be cherished and celebrated.

My heart is so heavy and my mind is so distracted, I can’t really seem to focus on much. I had done this image a few days ago and had started writing up a post of things I needed to announce, so here they are:

School is finally over for me and my fasting is going well, haven’t missed a day yet! I am going to be travelling for a few days this upcoming week and later on this summer as well, so I just wanted to announce that I am currently not accepting any Photography clients until after the summer. Please keep an eye on my Photography page for updates. If you are in need of a photographer urgently, check out the list of photographers I recommend on this page.

Someone recently contacted me and said they were getting this error when they visited my site using a certain browser:

I tried to figure out what could be causing it and what would be a solution for this, (see this plurk) but it seems as if it’s not something I can do anything about. So I was just wondering, if any of you guys ever get this message using certain browsers when visiting my site, and/or if you know how I can go about getting this fixed. I certainly don’t want that happening if people are trying to reach my site. Thank you!

There is more that I wanted to share but I can’t really focus right now so I’ll end it at that. Hopefully in a day or so I’ll be in a better state of mind to do a proper post.

Please stay safe and tell the ones you love how much they mean to you. <3

Looks to me like they went to a site purporting to be your site (like the scammers that make fake MP sites.

  • Speculation is rife, but it doesn’t matter if he did it out of hate for gays or at the direction of extremists, hate is hate. It’s just so bleeping sad that people can’t accept each other. It doesn’t have to be with loving arms, but just acceptance. I’m not you, you’re not me and that’s okay. Separatism and hatred go hand in hand and it’s all so unnecessary. You said it best: “I’m just waiting for the day people will realize that we are all human and we are all the same, no matter what our race, religion, orientation, gender, etc… and every life is valuable and should be cherished and celebrated.” Amen.

  • Thank you for reminding people how they can help, being a part of the solution is always the best option and you’ve made it easier for us to do so. I’m still shocked and deeply saddened, and I am pretty much at a loss…I couldn’t agree with you more about wishing for a completely tolerant world.

I had plans to make a fashion post on my own blog (the first post in months) and I almost didn't make it. After many hours trying to distract myself away from the news and social media, I decided to make that post anyway. It was nowhere near as upbeat as it would have been, had I written it the night before, but I took the advice of my dear old late Nan: "You've just got to keep a-doin'." That blessed woman lived through the Blitz here in the UK, so she knew what she was talking about.

As to your site, Sucuri Site Check is returning it as all-clear ( https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/results/strawberrysingh.com/ ) so I think you're pretty much OK, although just to be on the safe side it might be a good idea to install the Wordfence plugin and set it to run daily checks on your site.

Smartscreen is a feature of Internet Explorer, but unfortunately it isn't as smart as its name suggests. While there's a remote possibility that – at some point – you may have been hosting an external ad (eg: if you have Google Ads enabled) that was hijacked, what's more likely is that this is a false positive.

Anyone with Smartscreen enabled in their IE browser can click on that 'More Information' link at the bottom of the warning, and then click 'Report that this site does not contain threats'. That will take them to Microsoft's feedback site, where they can then follow the instructions to report your site as being a safe one to visit.

  • I’ll copy some of the details about support on my blog too so people can help out how much they can, this is so sad to see people killing each other so much … without any remorse I can’t believe how they can be like this… Hope the world will change and we will have more peace than usual, and people will learn to love each other, because even if we don’t want to know it, we’re somehow bonded by each other.
Take care of you and have a nice summer days ..

  • *hugs* Berry, tears are appropriate for tragedies of this nature.
Your helping how you can, the community and the world are watching and reaching out to help.
As Skell Dagger relates above from his late Nan, ‘… keep a-doing’.

Spend the time with your family and friends, its and opportunity for discussing topics that may arise out of events like this one. Change does not happen in one day, it’s takes small changes in all our lives each day, every day. We all make a difference in each others lives. You need to take care of yourself first Berry, in order to take care of others as you do so well. Eat ( I know your currently fasting.), drink lots of water, sleep, and be good to yourself.

Orlando will come together, mourn and be stronger by this tragic event. I know this from living through the events of the Boston Marathon, here our communities came together during those days.

It’s going to take all of us, together; every day, little changes one day at a time. Thank you for all that you do.

Peace and Love to you and your family.

  • Oh no.. missing the closing strike tag after ‘eat’ I can’t go back and edit comment. – Air

  • Hi, Berry.
Thank you for this post and for sharing your thoughts and feelings. I too feel deeply saddened by this latest public act of hatred, and appreciate all that is being done in caring response. We can all offer prayer and bring kindness to bear in our lives and relationships. Many can offer direct support; thank you for the links to blood drives and other means of helping.
Florida is indeed a beautiful location in the United States, and my hope is that peace and love will uphold every citizen, especially those directly affected by this terrible crime.
May we all hold peace in our hearts for one another.

  • PS: It is wonderful for many to be able to donate reliably in-world; thank you to Casper Warden of Caspervend for the opportunity!

  • Thank you so much for all the supportive words everyone! I’ve updated the post because there is a way to donate in Second Life now as well, please donate if you can. <3

Skell I installed Wordfence and ran the scanner and it said, "Congratulations! No security problems were detected by Wordfence." So I guess my site is ok then? I haven't had anyone else say they got this error either so I will just leave it for now and hope for the best. Thanks for all the advice! <3

  • Yep, I’d say the site is absolutely fine and the warning your visitor got was most likely a false positive. I’d recommend keeping Wordfence installed and setting it to run a scan every day. If you enter an email address in the Options section, it’ll email you if it finds any problems. It compares everything against the WordPress repository – themes, plugins, etc. – and will alert you whenever it finds something is different from the version in the repository. This usually happens when a plugin or theme needs updating, but it will also alert you if it finds malicious code inserted into your WordPress installation.

  • Sigh. Radical anythings cause so much trouble. Your post brings up so many thoughts, as do the recent events. I’m rather afraid that if I comment I’ll end up with a blog post sized rant…

The world gets smaller with technology. That is a good thing and a bad thing.

I (and others) appreciate that not only did you emote but you also added some positive actions for SL’ers to take with the donations.

I’d like to add another thought to how we can help stem the hate. We look at “big” things like war, terrorism, and get sad, depressed and frustrated because what can one person do? How about bringing it closer to home and looking at our own actions online. There’s a lot of hate out there, too. I’ve read some pretty incredible profiles of hatred. I’ve watched bullies and trolls and griefers. Often the excuse is “words can’t hurt you” and “this is virtual, get over it” and on and on. Those little acts of violence (and that is what they are) add up. They add to the overall energy, if you will, of the planet.

I can’t remember if it was my grandmother, or an ex’s (!!!) who said the wisdom, “The world would be a much better place if we paid attention to our own backyards and ignored our neighbors.” Like many simple statements that only goes so far, because of course we shouldn’t turn a blind eye to crime etc if we see it (in someone else’s backyard) but if you read it more as “live and let live”… yeah…truth.

  • How come you always spot the bad typos just as you hit send? This one is bad enough to correct. It should read, “The world would be a much better place if we paid attention to our own backyards and ignored our neighbors’ yards.” Not ignore our neighbors! :\

  • “Let Orlando be an opportunity to love others more deeply.”

That “unsafe website” message is a mock security alert on that person’s computer system. They have a virus that is interrupting their normal browsing abilities.

I appreciated the link to gofundme. Just today they’ve raised more than 2.5 million of a 3 million dollar goal contributed by over 58,000 people. That’s a hopeful thing to cling to.

  • Berry, I feel tired and frustrated, not least because the fact of these people’s deaths and injuries has become a political football.

The killer saw a soft target and went for it. He expected not to face armed opposition at the bar, because people aren’t ordinarily allowed to carry firearms at bars in most states.

All you have to do is ask if lives could have been saved if some of those victims has been armed, and reflexively a gun control debate breaks out.

The issue isn’t gun control, any more than it’s car control, bomb control or big knife control. Nor is it a religious issue – Timothy McVeigh, Terry Nicholls and Eric Rudolph did mass murders and assaults in the name of the Christian religion.

The issue, I’m afraid, is the innate perversity of the human species. We can be as gods in Second Life, and possibly in our First Lives as technology progresses, but all some people can encompass in their hearts is hatred of others, for the way they live or the way they love.

Taking away all the guns, the sharp objects, or the blunt objects won’t change that – a sufficiently-motivated person can kill with his or her hands, feet, teeth or forehead. I worry about a future in which ingenious terrorists cause us to wrap each other in legal strait-jackets meant to prevent what only a hundredth of a percent of the population ever intends to do.

That I’m even thinking about this instead of the families of the dead, those who must deal with their injuries, and the awesome response of most people in Orlando to this tragedy irritates me. But I’m afraid that my country may, in reacting to terror, become a police state. That would only lay another level of pain on this weekend’s events.

Most people agree that a safe place was violated by the killer this weekend. How do we make our places truly safe? That’s a discussion it’s hard to have without releasing anger at how those people were murdered so easily. The best memorial for the Orlando dead might be a thoughtful discussion of how best to protect ourselves and each other when those who live by hate make themselves known.

Check for ads especially flash ads with java applets as that can cause this. I have also seen this as done hatefully by competitors or mean people to add a site as unsafe in some of the reporting sites as some of them are done by votes. I don’t recommend clicking on any of it as well.

I do not see anything on Google showing it as unsafe/hacked and I am not getting that unsafe message in any of my browsers. Are you sure it was from your site and not a spoofed/typo squat site? Looks fine to me at this time. If you are still seeing this let me know and I can look further (would be helpful o know the specifics of how it comes up and is it duplicable?).
