Genesis Mesh Heads

Jiang

This is the first time I’ve tried a Genesis head and I thought it was nicely done. I liked this one especially because it has such different features than most of the mesh heads I’ve seen so far. I am probably never going to wear this head again as I don’t feel like myself in it at all, but I did want to share it with my readers so you guys can see the variety this brand has to offer. I also really liked the Blanca head I saw on their flickr, might have to DEMO that one.

The Jiang mesh head I’m wearing in this post is currently available at Shiny Shabby for L$2500. It comes with eyes, teeth (because the mouth is slightly open, can’t close it) appliers for Maitreya, SLink and Belleza bodies as well as hairbases and lipsticks to play with.

alone time

I am wearing the skin applier on my Maitreya mesh body that came with the head. Here are raw shots of both the first and second images so you can see how much I’ve processed it. There is also a FREE DEMO there so please make sure to try it before you buy.

Although I do enjoy dressing up Berry in mesh heads and taking pictures, I am still only wearing them for pictures. Are you a regular mesh head wearer?

I do, right now I’m wearing altamura, I’ve tried a variety. I enjoy the beauty and realism you can achieve with mesh heads, none of my flickr photos are edited unless I’ve put my name on it for my profile pic. I like not having odd facial shadows from the linden labs head, or the terrible way they had the nose. It’s a preference thing I think

  • STARVED Magic

i was reading the group chat of Genesis Lab’s when i read that the mesh body applier for Maitreya…did not look good around the breast area, that it looked stretched. Since you did not mention this observance in your post, I am assuming this is not the case.

I am sure seasoned shoppers already know this fact….always DEMO first before buying. I notice that a lot of ads for items are heavily photoshopped, and that what you are seeing in the ad for the mesh heads might not be how they really look.

I love Lelutka Mesh heads, and I wear Glam Affair, Mudskin, appliers for them…..

ty for letting me place my comments

  • We have (so far) stayed away from the mesh heads, as we rather like our faces as they are…and spend loads of time researching skins that work. However, we have tried (and purchased) one or two – and are using them in photos and for the stage. I really like this one you are showing, Berry. Very pretty!

I went with both Lelutka and Rowen mesh heads but have returned to my SL supplied, Dee modified (sliders) one.

Mesh heads like mesh hair are to solid and non emotional for me.I like the movement and expressions that can be done with ease, it seems more alive.

I have worn an auto smile for years (2009 +) and I miss seeing my av do that. You said it all with this (I don’t feel like myself in it at all). It will take time, if at all.

    Dee♥

  • I was really considering purchasing this head to blog, being an Asian avi it just kind of made sense. But I played with the demo’s a couple of days and I really just can’t. Not because of a lack of quality or anything, they are very nice, I just would want one that I could edit to make it look like me (especially) around the lip area. So at that steep price I will keep hoping for “one day.”

  • Tsuki, yes that’s also why I keep returning to mesh heads for pictures, it really cuts down on the processing.

Starved, I didn’t notice any stretching on my end, but I am on the slim side and have smaller breasts, perhaps if you get into bigger sizes it stretches, not sure. Hopefully they have the skin applier in the DEMO as well so people can see if it works for their shape.

Thank you Mireille! Mesh heads definitely do have a lot of great uses.

Dee, there is definitely something about the default head, even with all its imperfections, that just seems to still look more natural to me and makes me feel like myself. Something the mesh heads still don’t do. You’re right, it will take time, if at all.

Caoimhe, yes one day. I still like playing with the heads, even though I don’t feel like myself in them. I see it as playing dress up I guess.

Thank you all for your comments!

  • It’s going to take this kind of variety, particularly ethnic otpions, to drive the mesh head market. It’s not going to be like mesh bodies, and I think that’s why a head is costing the same as a body. Not being a sponsored blogger, I am can’t afford to buy and try but I am checking out the demos. I can see how a mesh head could be helpful in shoots, though.

I have not purchased one and don’t intend to until the technology is there to tweak the heads like we can our mesh bodies…There are some beautiful mesh heads out there (some scary ones too) but I am kinda stuck on this mug I have worn for 5 years 🙂

I knew that was Letis tattoo. Nice look.

  • JMB Balogh

I miss the Strawberry Singh face I know. 🙂

I think the mesh bodies are wonderful, I love my Lara although never wear my Slink. The newly updated Belleza body has now become very tempting too. But as for the heads I’m not really interested although I have demoed them. I’ve always tried to make my head/face so that I am recognizable without checking the tag over my head. Maybe the day will come when we can individualize them but like Cao, till then, I’ll forgo them.

These heads are so popular now with bloggers. But now I look at bloggers I follow and instead of saying, oh that’s XXXX wearing that lovely outfit and checking where it comes from, I say oh that’s XXXX wearing the Lelutka Y head again. Oh and there’s AAAA wearing the same Lelutka Y head. Yes you can individualize them to a certain extent, but not enough that you can line up a group of bloggers wearing the same head and tell who they are. Unlike me who never changes the red colour of her hair and never wears long hair, most bloggers change their hair and hair colour and length, depending on what they are promoting so that doesn’t help either.

Please show us the “real” Berry now and again. 🙂

  • I am really happy to see that mesh heads are starting to be created for other ethnicities other than Caucasian. Sure you can add a different skin to the mesh head but it’s nice that certain features don’t rely on a certain type of skin. (Hopefully soon enough a true mesh head for African American’s will be made with thicker lips and slightly wider noses)

Also Berry will you at some point make a how to do Black and White Pictures Tutorial? I would love to see how it’s done. Great work as always ♥

  • I have demo’d a number of mesh heads, and I can’t even begin to consider investing the Lindens to buy one of them. There’s always something “off” for me about them.

Take Lelutka’s for example. Theirs seem to be the most commonly used heads in the fashion blogs. For the life of me, I can’t make myself like the mouths on any of the Lelutka heads. The shape and position just annoys me. I get that some are into the “pouty” look, but the positioning of the mouth vs the the eyes and nose just looks defective, like an overuse of Botox or some sort of tmj defect.

No offense to those who love those heads, but the jutting mouth and chin and sunken eyes and nose offends my aesthetic sense. When I took the demo heads off and looked at my original SL head shape, it just seemed much more “natural.”

I also don’t really like that I can spot those Lelutka heads so easily despite the myriad appliers out there. One look, jutting chin, puffy lips, yep, Lelutka. People can insist all they want that these heads are customizable, but Lelutka’s at least are totally predictable.

In general, I think I would be happy to buy a Lelutka head once they starte expanding the line into different and less predictable “looks.”

As for the other brands, I’ve demo’d some and looked at others, but none of them “fit” my aesthetic. Logo’s expressions are fabulous, but none of the face shapes work for me. The fact that Genesis is branching out into other ethnicities gives me hope that someone will eventually create “my” head.

  • Well this discussion of sorts came at an opportune time for me. I have been wearing the Lelutka Stella demo head for several days now and will purchase this weekend.

Why now is a good question. I think I simply need a change. It has been a whirlwind year both good and bad and a new beginning in some sense seems like a good idea. I tried all the Lelutka heads and Stella looked pretty close to the “me” that I have been living with for the last few years.

Honestly a mesh head isn’t much different than switching skins — we all know how unexpected one can look with a couple of clicks and a new texture layer covering our face. Too I look completely different in OpenSim and have had a myriad of looks as I have joined different grids and platforms over the years. So “me” is a relative term I guess — more than for some folks.

I really like the hud sliders and choices and I am thrilled that you can have ambient occlusion on without a special Windlight (no nasty neck seam). I am not terribly happy with the eyelashes on the Lelutka head AND if I have blink on (in the demo anyway) I get a black flash going across the screen in the eye area at measured intervals. I am guessing that is something to do with the lashes — may be a video card issue too. I turned off blink and will test that. If someone knows the answer I would love to know. Thanks.

Anyway my post was scheduled for tomorrow morning but I will pop the link in here for anyone interested. I just hit the publish button.

And I am off to bed.

  • I have started wearing heads – primarily for roleplay, but for my non-roleplaying self too. I like the seamless look between my head and my body in that the lighting system is uniform now that it’s all prim, instead of the prims of the body lighting up differently from the system avatar. And the smoothness of the heads really appeals to me, now that I’ve worn them.

I’ve been looking at heads and there are some with some real promise. The Eve Eve’Olution head is a good head, although I am not wild about all the proportions. For the price, it’s a worthy contender and I hope it gets good support. Being Omega friendly, it makes it easy to customize.

Some of the proportions irk me, though, so it’s not a daily driver – Same thing with the LOGO Alex head. I am actually wearing Lelutka Karin although it’s not quite “me” either. But Lelutka has a League applier, so that’s the one that wins.

  • Jackal Ennui

I’ve been wearing a mesh head full-time since May or so (one of the Lelutka heads), and I can’t imagine going back to the regular avatar face. The limitation in skin choice are a bit annoying, though since GA has been my go-to skin for years, I’m pretty much set with Lelutka. But other than that, I love having a head that looks good from any angle. And yay for no post-processing.

  • I just don’t like how the chins look so big and the noses never seem right at least for my tastes but they all seem to share that. or the small eyes and low brows and flat side view. I definitely still prefer the default heads. I just haven’t seen a lot of good skins for default or mesh lately, at least the specific look I am after. I’d love to have help finding that kind of face.

  • I know this post is a bit old now, but i would suggest just everyone to take a look at Genesis Lab’s flickr page, theres just so so many gorgeous heads they came out with by now, not to mention the body skin appliers have been updated since and are totally gorgeous. I’m not payed for this comment i’m just crazy in love with their mesh heads and they highly customisable with the variety of skins and shapes and different ethnicities and all that stuff. Ever since i bought my first i havent stopped and by now i own most of them, and since the skins can be swapped between the heads, you have huge variety! They just amazing :O (thats, for my taste ofc)
