For Amy
Amy Nauman was 26 years old when she passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015 after aĀ courageous battle with cancer. You may have known her as Scarlet Chandrayaan in Second Life. She was the owner of Alouette, a wonderful home and garden store.
I didn’t really know Amy that well, aside from taking her picture once a couple of years ago. I never really spoke to her other than that meeting. But from what I saw of her on plurk and the impact she left on those she interacted with, she was a wonderful human being.
You guys probably don’t know this but I don’t have the best relationship with my mother. I’m very close to my father and siblings, but my mother and I have always seemed to butt heads. Well, this year on Mother’s day, Amy plurked something that had an incredible impact on me. I didn’t respond much in her plurks because I never really knew what to say, but she had me in tears, with that plurk especially. When Amy was writing that plurk, she knew that that was the last mother’s day she had with her mother. Because of that plurk, I have been making an extra effort with my own mother. Amy’s incredible bravery till the very end had me in awe.
After she passed, her friends set up a Tumblr where they share stories about her. Now,Ā Amy’s RL friend, Lacie Chambers, who is also the owner ofĀ Larette Island,Ā home to Alouette, is doing her best to keep Amy’s store alive. You can check Amy’s Legacy blog to see all the work she is doing.
I found out about this through Shiloh, owner and Creator of Magnolia Home & DĆ©cor. The lantern that you see floating in the water was created by her and itĀ isĀ a very special Memorial edition of her Japanese Lanterns for Amy. For every lantern that is purchased, 100% of the funds are going directly to help pay for Amy’s land on her sim. The lantern features lovely Japanese writing that translates to “Amy, our friend for Eternity.” You can get yours at the Origami summer event.
You can also go to Amy’s store and donate towards the sim costs by paying the pink R2D2 sitting there at the entrance.
I don’t really know what else to say about Amy. I never imagined that one day I would be writing this kind of post about her. I hope she knewĀ what kind of impact she had on people and how inspirational her kindness and bravery was for so many of us that didn’t even really know her.

Berry, Berry, Bo-Berry, this was really wonderful to read. For some reason, Amy was on my mind today, too. Like you, I didn’t know her super well (besides her being a customer of mine) but the outpouring of emotion for her on Plurk has left a lasting impression on me. Amy will always be a superb reminder of how our lives can ripple like waves and touch other people, sometimes people we’re not even close to. You have a big heart, and I hope that your efforts to improve things with your mom are fruitful. At the same time, just saying these things out loud might be just the ripple someone else needs, too.
Berry, I didn’t know Amy at all but I am acutely aware of the pain and sense of void felt by one’s passing in SL and RL.
In my time in SL I have often been confronted with, read of or heard in open chat, how SL is a just a game. I long ago gave up the need to argue that “game” is a term that is ill used to label SL with. Those with any longevity here know the difference.
I am not sure if it’s just me but I find something different about the loss of a friend or even someone I didn’t know in SL. I think that with a friend it is understood while with someone I didn’t know, it is seeing the out pouring of love, fond memories and the effort to keep their legacy alive.
It speaks for itself that her words can still have an positive impact on the reader……Bless her.

Your post is lovely, and I send warm wishes to you and to your mother as well. My maman passed a few years ago, and I miss her dearly; it was a precious relationship, although quite stormy at times. She and I disagreed on many things, but our love kept drawing us back together. Truly, in the end, the love is all that matters. Sadly, we must part with some of the people in our lives for cause, as loving ourselves must come first; after all, it does come full circle at some point.

*Sigh* Always feel sad when somebody pass away, no matter knew I that person or not. I didn’t know Amy until this post, but even on glance at her made me think she was a very kind girl. There is a saying “God always take back kind persons earlier than others”, I hope she look at us from heavens and smile, seeing how many people remember her with kindness. Praying for her soul…
Wanted to offer, Berry, maybe it would be good to make a mass meme in memorial of Amy?

Wonderful post Berry, I always find myself thinking about Amy when I look at all her wonderful creations in my inventory or I rez something for a blog post and it makes my heart sink. It was an honour to blog her wonderful and creative work, she lives on through her work in SL
