What is your perception of Second Life? Challenge

What is your perception of Second Life? Challenge

This week’s Monday Meme suggestion comes once again from the multi talented Mr. Draxtor Despres. A few days ago he put out a video of Loki Eliot sharing what his perception of SL is, you can view that on Draxtor’s youtube channel. He then suggested I ask my blog readers to also share their perception of Second Life.

Meme instructions: Make a one minute video at your favorite Second Life location and/or answer the following questions and share what your perception is of Second Life. If you do a video, upload it to youtube or flickr. If you upload it to flickr, please add it to the Blog Memes Flickr Group and don’t forget to leave a link to your post in the comments.

I’m no Draxtor Despres and my video skills are severely lacking but for my video I went to my most favorite place in Second Life, the Kingdom of Sand sim. I filmed there with one of my most favorite songs playing in the background: ‘A Thousand Years’ by The Piano Guys so this is my perception.

  1. What is your perception of Second Life? – Second Life is an adventurous place that lets me explore and discover things I wouldn’t get a chance to in the real world that easily. When I look around I am amazed by the talent of the content creators, who are people just like me, that are at their computers creating these things for all of the residents to enjoy.
  2. Do you feel the portrayal or reputation Second Life seems to have in the mainstream media is justified? – I feel that in the past, Second Life got a lot of slack in the media because of preconceived notions that it is just used for adult activities. However, I think in recent times that perception may be slightly changing. With a new CEO at Linden Lab and lots of updates and changes to the grid, there has been more positive light shed on it. Articles like: There’s No Shame In Playing Second Life By Beau Hindman show the outside world that there is more to do in SL than they might assume. My activities in Second Life, for the majority of the time, include exploring sims for my Friday Finds, dressing up my avatar, taking loads of images of myself and other avatars as well as assisting the content creators that I work for. So much to do in Second Life, I never have a moment when I ever feel bored or that I’m wasting my time. I’ve learned so much from the people I’ve met here and just by exploring and discovering things on my own.
  3. Do you talk about your Second Life with your real life friends and family? – There are a few people that I completely trust in my real life that know about my Second Life and some of the things I do here. I come from a somewhat strict household and it’s not that I am ashamed of my Second Life, but it gives me the opportunity to live a life the way I want to without societal pressures or judgement. This is why, for the most part, my Second Life is a secret. Also because of what I do in the real world as a career, I prefer to keep my activities in Second Life to myself. This is my own little place that I can escape to and be myself without judgement, and I want to keep it that way!
  4. What is your most favorite thing to do in Second Life? – Probably going to sound completely vain here but I would be kidding myself if I didn’t fully admit that my most favorite thing is dressing up my avatar. I mean….just look at that face. So much fun!
