Second Life Sartorialist Challenge

Before I get into talking about the challenge this week, I wanted to give a bit of a background on The Satorialist. This is one of my most favorite real life blogs. The blog is run by Scott Schuman who began carrying a digital camera around on the streets of New York City in 2005, taking pictures of people who had dressed in a way that caught his eye, and then posting them to his blog, sometimes with short comments, always either favorable or open-minded. I enjoy his blog so much and have been wanting to do a blog like that for Second Life but I don’t go exploring as much as I used to. So I thought this would be a good idea for a Monday Meme.

Second Life Sartorialist Challenge - QuinnPaxton (Second Life Resident: QuinnPaxton)

Meme Instructions: Travel the Second Life grid and find a resident whose avatar catches your eye. Ask their permission, take their picture and share the image with your readers. Their style credits are not necessary but you can share them if you like. Don’t forget to share the link to your post in the comments and add your pictures to the Blog Memes flickr group.

I honestly didn’t think I would be able to complete this meme today because I messaged several people and either they think I smell and refused to respond to me or everyone logs into Second Life and then goes AFK. My first stop was the Truth Hair sim and I saw this very beautiful female avatar there but she never responded. Then I went to Glam Affair and a few other sims and I got the same thing. Finally I decided I was going about it the wrong way and needed to go to a place where people go to socialize. So I went to the GOL Club because I know this place is always packed, which it was. I was there a few minutes, looking around the room and my eyes fell on Mr. QuinnPaxton. I thought his avatar was very well put together. I loved his use of accessories but my favorite part of his whole look was how he was just standing there in the middle of the dance floor drinking his bong Bottle, lol! Now that’s making a statement!

I know for us bloggers we are so used to staying on our platforms and not socializing that much so this is going to be a bit of a hard challenge to do, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be. I have quite a bit of social anxiety myself, but I did think it was important to ask the person first before taking their image so they knew what my intentions were and where their picture was going to end up. If you are not sure how to approach someone to do this meme, you can link them to this post and also start the conversation the way I did with Quinn:

Strawberry Singh: Hi there, was wondering if I could talk to you for a minute and ask you something.
QuinnPaxton: sup
Strawberry Singh: I was wondering if you would mind if I took your picture and put it on my blog?
QuinnPaxton: :O
Strawberry Singh: Is that a no? 😛
QuinnPaxton: i mean for what tho if u dont mind me asking
Strawberry Singh: I’m doing this thing where I’m traveling the grid and if I see an avatar whom I think is well put together, I take an image and share it with my readers. I would like to also include your name in the post and if possible and if you are willing to share, the credits of the items you are wearing.
Strawberry Singh: Would you be interested in doing that?
QuinnPaxton: sure why not
Strawberry Singh: that’s great. Thank you. So I’m just going to take your image right now, I like the way you are standing.

And that was it! Not too hard, right? 😛 He was also so sweet that he gave me his credits, which I’m sharing at the end of this post. The picture of him is pretty much a raw shot, I just sharpened it a bit. A big thank you to Quinn for being so sweet and letting me do this to him. <3

Dancing at GOL

Of course since I was already there and dancing at the club, I figured I’d take this opportunity to take a fun dancing pic as well. Head down to GOL if you have trouble finding someone to photograph, lots of people there all the time!

I have a feeling a lot of you may shy away from this challenge, I hope you don’t though. I think it’ll be interesting to see pictures of different avatars out in their natural environments. I actually kind of enjoyed doing this. I might make it a regular feature on my blog if I start exploring more. So I’m going to make a Sartorialism category in case I do this again, who knows right?

Please remember that you can participate in any of the memes/challenges at any time. You’ll find them all under my Blog Challenges category along with other memes and challenges I’ve done over the years. You don’t have to have a blog to do this challenge, you can share your image on any social platform you prefer.
