Second Life Sartorialist Challenge
Before I get into talking about the challenge this week, I wanted to give a bit of a background on The Satorialist. This is one of my most favorite real life blogs. The blog is run by Scott Schuman who began carrying a digital camera around on the streets of New York City in 2005, taking pictures of people who had dressed in a way that caught his eye, and then posting them to his blog, sometimes with short comments, always either favorable or open-minded. I enjoy his blog so much and have been wanting to do a blog like that for Second Life but I don’t go exploring as much as I used to. So I thought this would be a good idea for a Monday Meme.
(Second Life Resident: QuinnPaxton)
Meme Instructions: Travel the Second Life grid and find a resident whose avatar catches your eye. Ask their permission, take their picture and share the image with your readers. Their style credits are not necessary but you can share them if you like. Don’t forget to share the link to your post in the comments and add your pictures to the Blog Memes flickr group.
I honestly didn’t think I would be able to complete this meme today because I messaged several people and either they think I smell and refused to respond to me or everyone logs into Second Life and then goes AFK. My first stop was the Truth Hair sim and I saw this very beautiful female avatar there but she never responded. Then I went to Glam Affair and a few other sims and I got the same thing. Finally I decided I was going about it the wrong way and needed to go to a place where people go to socialize. So I went to the GOL Club because I know this place is always packed, which it was. I was there a few minutes, looking around the room and my eyes fell on Mr. QuinnPaxton. I thought his avatar was very well put together. I loved his use of accessories but my favorite part of his whole look was how he was just standing there in the middle of the dance floor drinking his bong Bottle, lol! Now that’s making a statement!
I know for us bloggers we are so used to staying on our platforms and not socializing that much so this is going to be a bit of a hard challenge to do, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be. I have quite a bit of social anxiety myself, but I did think it was important to ask the person first before taking their image so they knew what my intentions were and where their picture was going to end up. If you are not sure how to approach someone to do this meme, you can link them to this post and also start the conversation the way I did with Quinn:
Strawberry Singh: Hi there, was wondering if I could talk to you for a minute and ask you something.
QuinnPaxton: sup
Strawberry Singh: I was wondering if you would mind if I took your picture and put it on my blog?
QuinnPaxton: :O
Strawberry Singh: Is that a no? 😛
QuinnPaxton: i mean for what tho if u dont mind me asking
Strawberry Singh: I’m doing this thing where I’m traveling the grid and if I see an avatar whom I think is well put together, I take an image and share it with my readers. I would like to also include your name in the post and if possible and if you are willing to share, the credits of the items you are wearing.
Strawberry Singh: Would you be interested in doing that?
QuinnPaxton: sure why not
Strawberry Singh: that’s great. Thank you. So I’m just going to take your image right now, I like the way you are standing.
And that was it! Not too hard, right? 😛 He was also so sweet that he gave me his credits, which I’m sharing at the end of this post. The picture of him is pretty much a raw shot, I just sharpened it a bit. A big thank you to Quinn for being so sweet and letting me do this to him. <3
Of course since I was already there and dancing at the club, I figured I’d take this opportunity to take a fun dancing pic as well. Head down to GOL if you have trouble finding someone to photograph, lots of people there all the time!
I have a feeling a lot of you may shy away from this challenge, I hope you don’t though. I think it’ll be interesting to see pictures of different avatars out in their natural environments. I actually kind of enjoyed doing this. I might make it a regular feature on my blog if I start exploring more. So I’m going to make a Sartorialism category in case I do this again, who knows right?
Please remember that you can participate in any of the memes/challenges at any time. You’ll find them all under my Blog Challenges category along with other memes and challenges I’ve done over the years. You don’t have to have a blog to do this challenge, you can share your image on any social platform you prefer.

Thanks for the link to his website. I work in NYC, and have been known to take a picture of two (or 20, whatever) of people in and around the city that interest me – mostly as I’m commuting on the subways. I’m always interested in the images others capture around the City. Much appreciated.
Lol Strawberry! I just caught up with the last meme! this one sounds fun though, hopefully I can sneak in some time to do it. Definitely a challenge for the bloggers that chill on platforms all day. Thank you for sharing The Satorialist! What an awesome blog and what an eye for fashion of all sorts <3
What a great idea! I`m so glad it turned out for you. I have to say that I would feel a bit intimidated just because I have seen so many mean people in SL, although I know that`s not everyone, but it keeps me on my platform most of the time creating the next post:) It made me giggle to read his 1st response…”sup?” lol. And oh man, I bet the ones who missed your message are kicking themselves right now 😉 Anyway, cute post as always, thanks for sharing with us <3
I happened to run into Connie Arida It’s not Meme cheating to use a fashionista! It really was by chance. I run into fashionistas all the time, and if I didn’t I would have IM’d one to run into, but I didn’t…not this time. http://ccslfashionista.blogspot.com/2015/01/berrys-sartorialist-challenge-meme.html

I was lucky! The first person I contacted was cool with it, and was totally adorable!

This would be a lot of fun to do again; I think I’m going to try to keep it in mind when I see awesome avatars in the wild.
This challenge was a pleasure. I met a Vincent Vichan at GOL. His style stood out in the room. He is a very pleasant person to talk to, and we ended spending the rest of the night together. We both dressed up and went dancing at Frank’s. Vincent and I found out that we had several things in common. It was a wonderful night. I hope that Vincent comes looking for the foot that the slipper fell off.

Not sure I’m brave enough to do the challenge, but that sure is a great picture! 🙂

Shay and I like to challenge ourselves to do just this type of thing. Get out and interact, especially since our SL home is ina combined-sim community with NEIGHBORS. Check out our blog entry here: http://cranstony.blogspot.com/2015/01/strawberry-singh-blog-meme-challenge.html
What a great challenge this week! I had so much fun doing it. Meet my Shakespeare.

I must have very exacting standards because it took me three days to find anyone who really stood out to me as having a truly individual sense of style. I found several people who were well put-together in certain areas, but who were let down by silly little things like blingy jewellery or badly-fitted prim feet.
I sent an IM to the person I’d spotted. I even got a pleasant and positive response. But she turned out to be an alt who was teleporting other alts in to grab cheap outfits from a riotvendor. I explained the meme, asked if I could take her photo, etc. No answer. Eventually she teleported away and went offline after her alts had all grabbed the cheap outfits, so… *shrug*
I guess that’s what I get for being a picky so-and-so when it comes to other peoples’ general looks and style catching my eye 😉
