Berry’s 2013 Second Life Holiday Gift Guide & Giveaway!
Hello everyone! Before I start with the gift guide and giveaway announcements, I wanted to take a moment to thank you guys for voting for me for the 2013 AVI Choice Awards. I won for Favorite Photographer and Favorite Model. It’s my first time winning any AVI Choice awards, I am not very familiar with them and wasn’t even aware I was nominated until someone told me I was and then the AVI people sent me a message inworld about it. I was pretty surprised when I received both of these awards because I’ve never really considered myself a model (even though a few friends insist that I am a print model) and also because the other photographers that were nominated are people that I look up to and strive to be like. It’s a wonderful feeling to get recognized and appreciated for something that you truly love to do. So thank you, for taking the time to nominate and vote for me and for putting a smile on my face. <3
Berry’s 2013 Holiday Gift Guide
This is the time of the year when everyone is always in a frenzy looking for the perfect gift for their loved ones. I thought I would go ahead and make a few suggestions on items that caught my eye. I found them to be different, interesting, fun and most importantly, transferable so easy to gift.
- Ghosty Kips’ Instagram, Sets – I thought these were a very different and unique idea. I have A Distant Manhattan hanging on the wall behind me pictured below. He also has Commute and Vivid Rose. These are RL images that Mr. Kips took himself. They are framed and if you click on the photo, it turns on “Media on a Prim” and takes you to a website with more information about the image. Clicking on the frame takes it back to the original photograph. These are transferable and also limited edition. They are only up for sale till the 26th and then will be replaced with a different set of images. You can keep an eye on his marketplace store for more sets in the future.
- Eliza Wierwight’s Elephant Topiary – I blogged about this one last week. I feel this is a wonderful gift because the money you spend on it is going towards a great cause. For full details about the elephant topiary and where you can pick it up, click over to my post about it.
- Tee*fy Food War Mania – If you’ve been to the Arcade this round, you may have already seen or purchased this one. I thought it was such a creative and fun idea. It would be great for kid avatars as well. I am wearing the french fries bow and arrow set. You just have to wear the food weapons then go into mouselook by pressing ‘m’ and then start clicking on your targets. Since it’s gacha, it’s transferable and only L$50 per play!
- Beetlebones Artic Friends (SLurl) – I thought these were so adorable, I had to add them to the list. They can be worn as full mesh avatars or attached as a pet. The pets will animate depending on whether you are running, flying, sitting or standing. The avatars each come with their own AOs. There are two kinds: Land and Sea. I have the land polar bear attached to me as a pet. He’s adorable. I love the way he hunches over and falls asleep anytime I sit on anything. They are available in a gacha, so they are transferable and only L$50.
- Gift Cards – The items I listed so far have been rather inexpensive and can be used by people of all ages and sizes. I feel that buying something like clothing and jewelry may be a bit difficult unless you know the person very well and know their taste. If not, then gift cards are something I always love to send and receive. When I was making this list of gift cards I was told that the majority of the people that use the E2V Vendor System should have gift cards since the system makes it so easy to have them available for your store. So I used the E2V Wish List HUD to teleport around to some of the stores and see if they have cards as well. I haven’t gone through the whole list of stores in the HUD yet as I ran out of time, so please feel free to add any stores and slurls to the list. Just scroll to the bottom and add the name of your store with SLurl or marketplace.
So that’s my list, I hope you guys find it useful. Don’t forget to also look to see if the person you need to buy a gift for already has a wish list. You can easily look that up on the E2V website by entering in the person’s full SL name.

It’s been such a wonderful year of blogging for me that I really wanted to give back to my readers somehow. You guys have been so good to me by not only voting for me for the AVI Choice Awards, but also participating in my Monday Memes and constanly reading, liking and sharing my posts on a daily basis. I love the creativity of the residents in Second Life and I find it truly amazing, even after 6 years in world! It’s really hard to choose because I love all your blog posts, but looking at your list, besides the Serpent One (which has been mentioned already and made me buy the best photo prop in SL yet!) one which jumped out at me now and when it was posted originally, was the Autumn Challenge. 2. What do you love about Second Life the most? As much as I love the family I have, the friends I’ve made, and the connections I’ve established, at the end of the day what I love most about Second Life is the imagination of its residents; specifically its builders. I was out exploring the other day with a friend of mine and was simply marveled by what beautiful creations have built the grid I’ve come to call my virtual home for the past 6 years.
I remembered going to the first place I explored sometime last month and thinking to myself (first) “wow…this place is still here??” and (second) “even in its primitive stage…it was and is so beautiful”. Sure, we can see creations as beautiful if not more in real life. But where in real life can I do that simultaneously with someone who is nestled in their home on a completely different continent?
I wish I were half as imaginative as some of our residents. But since I’m not…I’ll gladly partake of a visual feast of imagination.

But if I had to pick just one blog, I’d have to say is the haiku meme. I love haiku as a form of poetry, both traditional and American (which is more senryu than haiku as haiku deals with the nature of … nature, and senryu is more related to the nature of man…). Anyway, I love the simplistic structure and sometimes the funniest things I’ve read have been American haiku.

What do you love about Second Life the most? I love that even though I can no longer paint in RL due to my carpal tunnel, I have found a place where I can come to & hop on a pose stand & create. I can stay there for hours & hours like painting a portrait, creating a different look everyday and exploring what my imagination can come up with next. For me it`s like therapy, it`s where I come after a long tiring day at work to relax.

It`s so hard to choose a specific post, although I will say that you have a knack of making people feel comfortable, like they are part of & an equal. What do you love about Second Life the most? I get to be just about anything! There is no set ‘mold’ unlike most games. With just some practice and work (also some $L!) you can really make yourself be orignal.

What do you love about Second Life the most? When I was growing up, I wanted to be a fashion designer. Physically, I can’t do this in RL but SL has allowed me to have a way to create clothing. It is soooooo hard to pick a favorite! But if I must narrow it down, I will pick Inworldz posts, especially Inworldz: The Knitting Circle, Nov 24th. This is my favorite because I just LOVE that you step outside of SL and are able to inform us of other worlds out there. I have poked around in other grids and what I have come to accept is, that they are all pretty much dead compared to SL. With you informing me with what is happening in Inworldz, I now know this isn’t the case anymore and that good designers, bloggers, models, etc. are now reaching out into Inworldz and I would not have known that if it wasn’t for all of your helpful information. What do you love about Second Life the most?
It is difficult to mention just a few things that I love about SL.
First of all I have met wonderful people, with a few of them I’ve had hard times, but they have been precisely those who have left me an important lesson. And they are all very special for me.
Real life with its routines and obligations often distracts us of what we want and who we are, and sometimes we lose some of our essence.
SL allows me to be more free of all that and as I said on other occasions, is a way to keep my inner child safe from the adult world. lol
Also I have learned a lot, I have developed skills I didn’t even knew I had. It is such a fascinating world with a lot to give, a life with unlimited opportunities and I just love that.

Each Monday I wake up and the first thing I do is check your new monday challenge. But still, my favorite post is not one of your memes, is a post called “6 years of Second Life.”
I love it because not only shows the nice person you are, but also highlights the beautiful and positive things about SL. Like you, I have had valuable experiences, I learned a lot about myself and I have met people who have changed my life.
I think most of us in SL went through that experience, but some people are focused on the drama and the negative aspects that does not build anything and that also makes us all residents of SL look like weirdos. lol and maybe we are. xD

I love seeing the amazing things people have created, I am blown away daily by some new thing I see.I have always been a bit envious that I don’t have a creative bone in my body. Got to agree with you on this one, Berry, for me it is the Rodvik meme – that was the first meme I had ever created a pic/little story for, I was so nervous about it, because everyone else seems to have been blogging forever and I am still “new kid on the block”, but the whole Flat Rodvik thing really tickled my funnybone, and I had fun :).

I love the fact that I can log on and have a large variety of friends that I can rely on within my community. What do you love about Second Life the most?
There are so many reasons I love Second Life. I can’t narrow it down to just one thing so I’m going to just mention the two most important to me. The first being that it’s an avenue that allows me to be inspired. I see so many things in SL that either touch me emotionally, spur me to open up my own creative consciousness or look at the creations in awe and wonder of so many brilliantly talented creators. My second reason is because while in the real world, I have a hard time getting to know people due to various reasons, be it insecurities, being self conscious or just being an odd duck. Second Life removes a lot of those barriers and allows me to connect with people in a way that is comfortable for me. I have met so many wonderful, amazing people in Second Life. I am just so thankful for both of those reasons.
Which of my blog posts from 2013 were your favorite and why?
My favorite blog post from this year was actually pretty recent, the Introspection Meme. That post hit at probably the most pivotal time of my life. The week before it was posted my Dad (RL) had called me and told me that my Mom, who had been battling small cell lung which had metastasized to the brain, was given only 3-6 weeks left to live. I currently live 1700 miles away and he told me I needed to come home. This post was published a few days before I was due to fly out there and I sat down and went through it, feeling the way I did with the thought of losing my mother. I think some of my answers would have been very different prior to my Mom’s diagnosis. That said it definitely was food for thought in dealing with the start of my grieving process. My Mom, who was only 58, passed away December 10th and I reread that post and I just wanted to come back and say thank you so much. I really feel that it helped me realize some things I hadn’t thought of and helped me cope a bit by focusing on what really matters to me by writing things down.

What do you love about Second Life the most? There are so many things to love about SecondLife! I love it’s ability to bring people together the most. In SecondLife, you can be whatever you want to be and most people won’t judge you for that. They just accept it.
It doesn’t matter if you are gay, straight, black, white, poor, rich, disabled, autistic or just an average guy/girl. In secondlife, you can be who you are or who you want to be and that is ok. I wish it was more like this in real life.
