Exploring Second Life Meme
Before I begin today’s Monday Meme, I just want to state that all of the images in this post are pure raw shots, straight from SL. I didn’t even crop them. If you click on them and head on over to my flickr, you’ll see that they are 6016×3221 which is the highest possible ratio I’ve been able to shoot recently using the latest official SL viewer. As you can see, I don’t have any gridlines or glitches like I used to have, so I’m really happy about that!
Meme Instructions: Share 1 to 5 of your favorite places on the grid. I feel like exploring and discovering new places. Share places you think everyone should visit and also tell us why they are your favorites. Don’t forget to leave a link to your post in the comments!
Tempura Island – SLurl – Blog – Flickr Group
Over the years I have taken many pictures at Tempura Island. It’s one of my most favorite sims. I discovered it back in 2008. My boyfriend at the time used to take me there on dates all the time. It’s actually great for dates because they have a gorgeous ballroom for dancing and lots of little secluded areas for couples. It is owned and created by the designer of Mandala, Kikunosuke Eel, who we all know is incredibly talented!
I think my most favorite part of Tempura Island is their blog. If you visit their blog, you’ll notice that once in a while they will do a post called “Avatars that visit tempura” and in those posts are pictures of people that visit the sim. The pictures are taken by the Tempura Photographers and security. The people they take photos of usually don’t even know that their pictures are taken. I know this because I discovered that they had actually caught me once, I had no idea! LOL If you click over to the post from this past February, you’ll see me second from the bottom. They don’t put the people’s names with the pictures, but they write a cute little caption along with the image. This is what they wrote under my picture, “An experienced adult lady would know how to read menās mind correctly.” LOL love it!
The Far Away – SLurl – Flickr Group
I have blogged about AM Radio and my love for his sims back in 2011 when he had decided to shut them all down. I am not sure what saved “The Far Away” and if the others are also saved somewhere on the grid, but I am so happy it was saved! It’s one of the first places that inspired me and got me into SL Photography. I was a daily visitor back in 2008, bringing many of my friends over and taking pics there (my flickr set). I miss the rest of his sims dearly and not sure if they are still around. If you have any info on them, please let me know!
Kingdom of Sand – SLurl – Flickr Group – Blog
Words cannot express how I feel about Kingdom of Sand. It’s been my ultimate most favorite sim since it first landed on the grid. I remember hearing from close friends back in 2007 Ā telling me how they are creating an incredible roleplay sim that I am going to love, and they were right! It was love at first sight, as soon as I landed. Of course I had a really crappy computer back then so it was incredibly laggy for me and took me forever to walk around and see it all. In early 2008 when I finally got a new computer, it was the first place I headed to and took pictures of. I have a lot of fond memories of this place and I still visit it several times a year.
New York City – SLurl – Blog – Flickr Group
This is a relatively newer sim (compared to the rest of the ones on my favorites list). The majority of the sims on my list, I chose for nostalgic reasons. They brought back great memories. They are beautifully done and just so majestic and incredible. However, the New York City is one of my most favorite urban sims to visit. I have actually lost count the amount of times I have taken clients there for photoshoots. Most of my clients like to have an urban background in their pictures the sim works perfectly because they actually allow you to rez there for 5 to 10 minutes, which is just perfect timing for rezzing a pose stand and hopping on top of it. However, I did notice today when I went to take this image, that the option to rez was disabled for some reason. I am hoping this is temporary as I loved being able to do that. I just went there a few weeks ago and it was enabled so perhaps it is just temporary right now. In any case, it’s a wonderful city sim with gorgeous textures and actually lots of shops so you can go shopping! I believe they also rent apartments and such, you can check out their blog for all the details if you are interested in real city living!
Zaara – SLurl – Blog – Flickr Group
Finally, and I admit I am a bit biased in this one, but of course I have to pick the Zaara sim. Zaara is my home, I live in the sky, but the ground level is my favorite part. From the little indian alley, the temple, the dupatta tree, the Nasha Lounge, I love every bit of it! We’ve had many crazy parties at the Nasha Lounge over the years, the Zaara sim party, Gypsy Nights, Celebrating Slumdog Millionaire! Lots of great times and wonderful memories that I will cherish forever. <3 Currently Zaara is also having a 50% off sale. Everything is half off until September 3rd!
So these are my favorite places. I hope you visit and enjoy and make some memories of your own. There are many more places that I also absolutely love such as Magic of Oz, Mischief Managed, Mayfair, LE.LOOK! and many, many more but I’m already pretty late with today’s meme so stopping at five!
I hope you guys share some of your favorites. I’ll be saving SLurls and visiting when I get the chance. Please remember that you can participate in any of the memes/challenges at any time. Youāll find them all under my Blog Challenges category along with other memes and challenges Iāve done over the years. If you end up sharing pictures of your favorite places, feel free to share them in the Blog Memes Flickr Group.
UPDATE: I was requested to create a flickr group just for this meme specifically, so here it is:
Explore Second Life – http://www.flickr.com/groups/exploresecondlife
You don’t have to do the meme to add your images to that group.
There are just a couple rules to the group:
1. SLurl (or link to blog post with the slurl) must be in the description of the image.
2. Avatars are allowed, however the image must show a lot of the sim and not only focus on the avatars.
Thanks and hope you guys join and share your pics! <3 Happy Exploring!
Thanks for the shout-out for Magic of Oz Berry <3 I loved seeing Mischief Managed!

Thank you so much for this week’s meme. It’s been awhile since I last went back to my old haunts and I’ve enjoyed every moment snapping pictures:) It’s sad that some places are no longer around, but it’s also amazing that other places still stand the test of time and mesh!

Alas, my all-time favorite sims in SL have apparently disappeared.
Alpha Point and Omega Point were absolutely incredible builds, huge in size and intricate in construction. It boggled my mind how much time was put into these sims with only TWO people involved. Even more amazing was that the creators periodically tore it down and rebuilt it, so that it was never stagnant.
I no longer have a blog to link to, but I discovered this blog has a page dedicated to the beauty that was AP and OP: http://aaronp.me/2012/02/second-life-travel-alpha-point-and-omega-point/
This was a fun Meme to do. I also loved reading all the other amazing places I need to go visit now. Here is my Meme: http://bine.se/?p=1942

I don’t have a blog to do your meme, but I hope you’ll come visit a new sim, The Cyprian Gardens. It is an adult bdsm garden and a photographer’s dream. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/RarIR/65/244/22
All these wonderful places!! Berry, I think this calls for another Flickr pool specifically for this meme? š
Thanks for writing about AM Radio’s The Far Away. Unfortunately it is indeed the last of his creations on the grid, as IDIA Labs closed down their sim a couple years ago. (It was home to Surface, The Quiet: Further Away and Further Apart, The Ferry, Superdyne, and a few other installations that came and wentāI created an archival video of these here:
) I own and maintain The Far Away on behalf of AM, and hopefully it will stay with us for a long time. š
Zee, alright fine, but you are going to help me moderate it! š

Just a couple of rules to the group:
1. SLurl (or link to blog post with the slurl) must be in the description of the image.
2. Avatars are allowed, however the image must show a lot of the sim and not only focus on the avatars.
You don’t have to do this meme to add your images to this group either. Just any SL locations with slurls in the descriptions is fine. Thanks and hope you guys add your pics! <3

Oh, my!
This is fantastic, Berry! I’ve had such a great time these last few days, traveling about and working on my own little list. I can type again, but it is VERY slow work, so it took me awhile to post my list. You can see it here: http://cesoirarts.com/2013/08/28/a-monday-meme-traveling-the-metaverse/
I LOVE exploring, and as we near the end of our vacation, I have some time to do just that. Thank you again, Berry – and everyone – for the wonderful SL itinerary!
Great meme Berry, but I’m not able to do it justice with my current hardware. *sob* I did take a photo of the place I call home though! http://aylaanddolly.blogspot.com/2013/08/almost-end-of-summer.html

I don’t get out much so I couldn’t make a list of 5, especially ones that people haven’t mentioned yet.
But I really love Vintage Village, a truly magical place, like from an ancient children’s book.

My absolute favorite sim is the 1920s Berlin Project. It’s a truly amazing achievement in historical sim building and role playing. The roaring twenties are not long gone, they are very much alive in 1920s Berlin. Every single detail of what is created in the sim is truly authentic. Draxtor Despres has made a really great episode about it. Go watch it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkE_F2nEf4g

My place to go hide out when I need time alone. Probably the best kept secret in SL because it’s always empty.
You have to set lighting for the different floating environments to get winter or dreary night looks, but it’s my sanctuary of sanity in the mad, mad, mad SL world lol, and it has certain romantic attributes as well.

Sometimes, there’s a shortage of time to study lengthy bits, but yours is brief and succinct,
I spent only a couple of minutes to read the entire article.
It is essential since no one has enough time to browse.
