Making a Flat Cutout for Second Life using Photoshop

Making a Flat Cutout for Second Life using Photoshop

Ever since I did the Flat Rodvik meme, I’ve had quite a few people ask me to do a tutorial on making a cutout in Second Life, so they can make some themselves. So here’s a quick video tutorial showing how I did it.

You can click over to youtube to watch it in full HD: http://youtu.be/EffZA1wi6qI

UPDATE: After I wrote this post, Nalates Urriah did an informative post with some helpful suggestions to make this process a lot more efficient. She has a link to a video tutorial in her post that shows how using the refine edge feature will improve your end result because it is a much better way of extracting subjects from backgrounds. She also has some tips on texture size and how to make it more efficient. Click over to her post for all the details: Flat Berry by Nalates Urriah

I also did a quick search and found a couple of other tutorials on the same topic that you guys might find informative:
> Making a Cut-Out in Second Life by Osprey Therian
> Creating a cutout in Gimp for SL by XoxKendiKxoX

I just made this Flat Berry for fun, to show you guys how to make it. I will NOT be putting it up on marketplace like I did with Flat Rodvik for two reasons:
1. Cuz I don’t trust you guys.
2. Cuz I don’t trust you guys. 😛

I may or may not send it to my inworld group. I’ll think about it! Anyhow, I hope the video was easy to follow. Let me know if you have any questions regarding this tutorial or requests for more.

  • The look on your face… priceless! Must try this out thanks Berry!

  • Hey Berry !
Thank you so much for the tutorial, and the hue saturation tip of getting rid of greens from hair, OMG you are a life saver that used to take me ages i used to use the background eraser. And you don’t really have to upload the Alpha texture, secondlife inventory default library already has transparent alpha texture that you can use on any prim to make it invisible 😀 . Hope this can save someone those precious 10 lindens

    Hugss

  • LOL thanks guys!

Amber, thank YOU for that tip about the alpha texture in the library. Shows you how observant I am. 😛
