What’s your Digits? – Take 3: Proportions Challenge
For my Monday meme this week, I thought it would be fun to bring back my What’s your digits? challenge from previous years, especially since I’ve made quite a lot of changes to my shape in the past 24 hours. After yesterday’s Proportions post and looking at all the comments, I decided I wanted to play with my shape a bit more. Not only that, I took out my male avatar and fixed up his shape as well. It’s been about a year since I asked you guys for your shape numbers, so I thought it would be the perfect time to bring this challenge up again and see if any of you have been changing your shapes around more and why.
Here are the digits challenges I’ve done so far and my reasoning behind them:
- 2011: What’s your digits? – I was worried about my shape and wondered if my proportions were ok because all of a sudden I felt that my hands looked massive.
- 2012: What’s your digits? Take 2: The Mesh Revolution – I brought back the challenge then because I realized I had changed my avatar quite a bit because of mesh and I wanted to see how everyone else felt about it.
- 2013: What’s your digits? Take 3: Proportions Challenge – I was again worried about the length of my arms a couple of days ago (see: Proportions Post) and I changed my shape around quite a bit so I wanted to share the new numbers and also ask you guys a bunch of questions about proportions.
Meme instructions: Share your avatar’s digits (if you want to, not necessary) and then copy paste the following questions and answers into your post, remove my answers and input your own. Don’t forget to share your link in the comments of this post and if you decide to share your numbers, the flickr group for the Digits challenge is here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/digits
Average body proportions for Adult males, females and children, link here.
Proportions Challenge Questions:
- Do you try and keep your avatar’s body proportionate and similar to the “average” proportions pictured above? – I didn’t really care about it before, but now I’ve been trying to fix my shape and make it closer to average proportions, just to make it look a bit more realistic.
- What do you dislike the most about the SL avatar mesh? – I think probably the hands and feet bother me the most but those are easily fixed now with mesh parts. I don’t really have major issues with the rest of the avatar.
- Does it bother you when you see other avatars that are not proportionate at all? – No, it doesn’t bother me at all. I know some people find it irritating and say it’s a “pet peeve” but I honestly don’t really care how other avatars make themselves look. Unless they are really muscular or sexy looking so they stand out and I’m kind of attracted to them, I usually don’t notice them.
- Even though this is a virtual world and people can be anything they want to be, do you feel when they are in human form, they should try to keep their proportions close to average? No! I’ve just been doing it for myself because I felt like it, but definitely don’t think anyone else has to.
Now the second part of the challenge is sharing your digits. You absolutely do not have to do that if you don’t want to or if you haven’t changed much from last year when you shared them then. I also know there is an issue with people stealing people’s shapes and putting them up on marketplace (like my shape is up on marketplace twice, see this link) so I absolutely understand if you don’t feel comfortable sharing your numbers. I am not going to share all my numbers, so you can share whichever ones you like and explain what you have changed recently about your shape and why.
Strawberry Singh’s digits: Just in the past 24 hours I have changed her arms and hands and made them larger. I adjusted the length of her legs and then made her taller. I also reduced her hip length and decreased her waist a bit so she could fit into certain mesh pieces better. She is wearing SLink mesh hands and feet and she usually wears XS or S in mesh standard sizing.
Height – 60 (6’5″ using the Avatar Ruler)
Body Fat: 5
Head size: 58
Torso Muscle: 35
Breast Size: 45
Arm length: 100
Hand size: 32
Torso length: 55
Love Handles: 25
Belly Size: 1
Leg Muscle: 49
Leg length: 50
Hip width: 58
Butt Size: 45
Saddle Bags: 30
Manberry’s digits: I had to decrease his neck and chest and body fat quite a bit the past few months to make him fit properly into a size medium. Today I got him mesh hands from Cheerno and mesh feet from SLink. When I put the mesh hands on him, his arms looked really small so I increased his arm length as well. He is a perfect size medium in mesh standard sizing now.
Height – 82 (7’2″ using the Avatar Ruler)
Body Fat: 5
Head size: 70
Torso Muscles: 47
Pectorals: 10
Arm length: 75
Hand size: 50
Torso length: 60
Love Handles: 25
Belly Size: 1
Leg Muscle: 60
Leg length: 54
Hip width: 60
Butt Size: 55
Package: 10
Saddle Bags: 22
I know my shapes are still not that close to the average proportions but I feel like I am satisfied with the way they look right now so I am going to stop adjusting..for now.

I’m excited to see how people feel about average proportions in this virtual world so I hope you guys participate. Please remember that you can participate in any of the memes/challenges at any time. You’ll find them all under my Blog Challenges category along with other memes and challenges I’ve done over the years.
UPDATE: If you would like to place your Digits picture in the “What’s your digits” gallery inworld, Vaneeesa Blaylock has the instructions on how to do that in this post and here is the SLurl to the gallery: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/LEA11/106/188/21
And ANOTHER Update: A followup to this post because Whiskey Monday requested a side-by-side comparison of my shapes so I decided to share them all throughout the years. It was really interesting to see how much I’ve changed. You don’t need to do this but it would be great if you do. If you do end up doing it, please consider adding it to the Digits flickr group. Thank you <3

OMG Berry’s legendary “Digits” are back! Yay! Would you like to do another installation at LEA11? We could set up a space similar to the movie poster space and let peeps post their flickr Digit / Portraits.
Van, lol sure if you wanna do it. I won’t be around much again the next couple of days so lemme know what I need to do or if you want to set it up for me again I’ll edit and put it in the post. Thanks again for all the support. <3
something to read and do when im home in the after noon 😀
I have passed on the first two rounds of this, but I’m thinking this time I have the courage to do it! I love when you do what’s your digits and read how others shape themselves and why.
For me no one should have a pet peeve on someone else looks as we are all unique, and we should accept people as they choose to look.
Oooo I can’t wait to do this tomorrow! 😀 Right now I’m done with SL for the night, I will definitely be doin this 😀 hahaha

Warning XD i am ranting a bit X.x
Mine is here: http://xy-zee.tumblr.com/post/53745400635/berrys-proportion-challenge
Have to admit it made me slightly neurotic. Just a little. 😛
I’m fairly new to SL. Question #2, you mean avatars made out of mesh, right? That was the assumption I made when I answered that question. I only know of avatar mesh for petites and not aware of one for regular size avatars…so I guess this will next on my research list.
Do you try and keep your avatar’s body proportionate and similar to the “average” proportions pictured above? – Sort of. I try to create an artistic metaphor of my physical truths. It’s pixels, which in my view, is meant to be visual art. My avatar is an interpertive caricature. I’m 5′ tall in RL, so I build my caricature around a frame that’s 5 feet in SL.
What do you dislike the most about the SL avatar mesh? –
Angles. Jagged bits that never lay smooth at the elbows and shoulders and collarbone especially. Also, body clipping and butt-flattening. 😀
Does it bother you when you see other avatars that are not proportionate at all? – It depends on in what way they are disproportionate. I get a little tired of 8 foot tall women with insane giraffe legs, and paper-doll-flat faces drive me crazy.
Even though this is a virtual world and people can be anything they want to be, do you feel when they are in human form, they should try to keep their proportions close to average? – Average? Not at all. I think people should be what they really most want to be, because we CAN! but it bothers me sometimes to see what people wish for themselves.
Here’s my version! It was fun taking pictures for this! Gave me a good chance to practice my windlights >:D
http://xantheanneslife.tumblr.com/post/53747494122/strawberry-singhs-proportions-challenge-so-just
One thing that is glaringly obvious to me in the photo above is both of your avatars are too tall. I’d say they are not “closer to average proportions” actually if they start out being close to 2 feet above average.
I tweak my shape so often for outfits that I have about 30 saved (mostly bust and body fat for mesh). But one thing I keep pretty constant is the height at 5’5″.
@Zee: The SL avatar is mesh.
Here is mine: http://style.angeltzara.com/2013/06/24/my-digits/
I admit I did not enter all my digits for my shape.. am paranoid like that :-p
Ah, so we are all mesh now? It wasn’t, previously? Hmm. I must really look into this before I annoy everyone with questions….
I’ll blog my response tonight or tomorrow. This is one of your best and most interesting memes.
Thank you everyone that has participated so far. It was really nice to wake up to such a response, looking forward to reading all your posts soon and thanks to those that are sharing their digits and answers in the comments here!
@Galilla oh yes, I definitely know I am not close to average proportions still. I am still quite tall but I felt weird when I made myself shorter. For now I am comfortable at this height so I’ll keep them both there.
@Zee, when I said the avatar mesh, I just meant our regular sl avatars, not other mesh avatars. Sorry for the confusion.

I’ll put up a post with directions in a few hours, but it’s the same as before:
This time I used “Moo’s Digits” as the sample piece. Just touch any one to “buy” it for L$0. Nothing will go into your inventory, you’ll become the owner of the one physically there on the ground. Then just drag your texture onto Front AND BACK.
The sample is square, but peeps might be portrait or landscape. They can stretch/squeeze as needed to fit their piece HORIZONTALLY, but if we can keep the verticals as they are at 2.5m, the gallery will be more consistent.
Peeps don’t need to wear the VB Friends group tag since their poster is already rezzed there. But Berry, if you want to put anything out, like a ruler giver or notecard giver or anything, just wear the VB Friends tag and place as you like.
Yay! Supa’fun! 🙂
Thank you Van! <3 I just got your offline too. I'm gonna login in a bit and set it up there. Really appreciate it. <3

Do you try and keep your avatar’s body proportionate and similar to the “average” proportions pictured above? I never wanted to be one those ‘triangle’ guys, going for a more realistic look, though, still tall and some muscle!
What do you dislike the most about the SL avatar mesh? –
Prim boobs – no matter what they look stuck on. and if the skin can’t match and a seam can be seen, any prim hands or feet drives me nuts
Does it bother you when you see other avatars that are not proportionate at all? – sometimes yes, but then, this is SL and you can be what or how you want to be. Triangle shaped guys or stick girls with huge boobs does make me chuckle a little
Even though this is a virtual world and people can be anything they want to be, do you feel when they are in human form, they should try to keep their proportions close to average? no.. accentuating is nice! looong legs on a girl is so sexy, a slightly bigger than what would be considered ‘normal’ butt …. to me what makes a girl hot is that yes she is in ‘proportion’ to a degree, but just enhanced in the right places (i’m not a fan of big boobs in sl normal or mesh)
Whiskey Monday asked for a side-by-side comparison of my shapes so I decided to show my sl avatar shape evolution from the start. I’ve updated this post with it above but you can also click over to my flickr here to see it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/strawberrysingh/9128093156/
I should do that side-by-side for the midget butler. I believe his numbers were the result of a bad night with Jack Daniels and some d10’s.

You really have me thinking about my avatar shape now. I look forward to reading everyone’s posts! Here’s mine: http://aylaanddolly.blogspot.com/2013/06/digital-proportions-strawberry-singh.html
I will post on this later in the week now that I’m out for school break because I keep my old shapes for reference. I have found that my shape really hasn’t changed much. It’s set to fit XS slink enhancements because the hands size doesn’t change, so my avatar is small enough to look in proportion to her hands. This generally makes her an XS and S avatar. I used to sometimes make a separate shape to fit into mesh items if she didn’t quite fit, but now I have no set boob size. It’s just easier for me to adjust my avatar’s breasts if need be.
Also, hey Manberry, hey. *Slips manberry her digits*

Digits Take 3: http://kirstentacular.blogspot.com/2013/06/digits-3-proportions.html
@Zee – the SL avatar has always been mesh. Makes you wonder why it took so long for LL to let us actually create and upload mesh ourselves!
@Strawberry – I do feel short a lot of the time while out in clubs and such but I’m stubborn. I often wonder why the SL avatars, especially the women, got so tall in the first place. I say it was to keep up with the macho guys who just have to make themselves the tallest in the room but my friend Rug contends it’s the camera angles and distance. Probably a mix of both.
Either that or they all wanted to be models.

I was wondering, what do you guys think about the short girls look? I know over the last year it’s gotten pretty popular, I myself have my avatar really short and most of the other women I know are all about my same height in sl which is REALLY short. :/ I used to have my avatar at about 6 feet tall many years ago and now I just can not stand my avatar tall like that. I’m 5’2 in real life and have no interest in being tall in either of my worlds but what do you guys think about this trend?
Started working on this and got distracted by the sheer number of shapes I had created over the years ~ contemporary, young, old, fat, child, hobbit, pixie, fae, Elf, human ~ and that’s just the bi-pedal!
So Thank You, Berry ~ for forcing me to straighten out my Body Parts>Shape folder.
