One Billion Rising

One Billion Rising

The following is taken from the One Billion Rising in Second Life about page because I couldn’t have worded it any better:

ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. On February 14, 2013, men and women in Second Life will join activists, writers, thinkers, celebrities, and people across the world to Walk, Dance, and Rise as a show of unity, individual strength, and the need for change.

As a victim of sexual abuse, I’ve been through all the emotions of guilt, shame, anger and hatred. I’ve blamed myself and let it affect me and my life for decades. There are one billion of us out there!

The statistic is shocking and so painful to see: “1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime.” This Valentine’s day, either in the real world or in the virtual world, stand tall, dance and rise as a show of unity, individual strength, and the need for change!
