Pink Shirt Day – April 14, 2010

Pink Shirt Day

At some point or other, we are all culpable when it comes to bullying – knowingly or unknowingly. It would be terribly idealist to not acknowledge that fact. Awareness initiatives like Pink Shirt Day are an opportunity to acknowledge the reality and recognize that we need to change – and make that change lasting.

  • “At some point or other, we are all culpable when it comes to bullying – knowingly or unknowingly. It would be terribly idealist to not acknowledge that fact.”

Thank you for this wording. I think in a virtual environment we let our guard down. We say and do things that we would never do in our day to day existence in RL and yes, it can be construed as bullying. People get a bit to black and white in their thinking on the net and construe disagreement into something beyond that. Even though I didn’t participate in Pink Shirt Day, virtually, I do believe it may help us examine our own behaviors and what we have done in the past that is less than wonderful.

My hope is outside of SL that parents and teachers will now be more aware of the signs of bullying. It’s sometimes easy to over look the pleasant, easy going child who outside of the classroom has to put up ridiculous torment from his or her peers. I, at age 13, experienced this first hand. The boy came from a very prominent family, was class president and looked good on paper so to speak but for most of my 13th year on this earth he launched a relentless campaign against. Looking back on it I know it had something to do with his own jealousy of my loving parents. But trying to convince a 13 year old of that is nearly impossible.

    And oh lovely picture btw!

  • Thank you so much for sharing your experience Lizzie.

Being a teacher myself, I have first-hand experience of the bullying that can take place in the playground on a day-to-day basis and the detrimental effects it can cause.

I sincerely hope that this campaign has helped people realize how serious this situation is and prompted them to get involved and reach out by giving support to those who need it the most.

Thanks again for visiting and taking the time to comment. <3

  • Meanwhile, other antique hunters simply spend money on antiques for the gain. They see a market likely somehow able to fill up. While I don’t believe that there is anyone out there that can’t deal with antiques rather than be fascinated by its history plus the thrill of the search, some antique dealers focus more to the dollars and cents on the trade. These people will be the salesmen (and women). They discover how to purchase an item as well as successfully sell that item for just a profit. The best antique searcher are all three of these kind of people combined.
