Second Life Viewer 2.0

After logging in and setting my preferences to how I like them, my first task was to actually take a snapshot. Although I love this new viewer (the interface is so phenomenally organized and there are so many neat new features) I am a bit lost and confused as to what to do about this snapshot situation.

First just to give you a bit of a background, I am running Windows 7 and my video card is Nvidia Geforce 7800 GT w/256MB. My screen resolution 1440×900. In the past I typically shot pictures at least twice (usually 3 times) my screen size. In this new viewer I’m having severe issues shooting anything above 1600×1200.

This was taken @ 1600×1200:
1600x1200

This was taken @ 6016×3542 (do you see the glitches in the water?)
6016x3542

And any picture taken with a screen rez above 1600×3542 to about 5000×2944 looks like this: (quarter of the screen)
4000x2355

I’m waiting for the next release, hoping all this will be resolved. Till then to take pics I will have to return to the old viewer. However, I love everything else about the new one. The interface can be daunting and will take some time to get used to, but it includes some much needed features. My favorite was the tattoo layer. I think I’ll be experimenting a lot with that one, I already had some fun making my strawberry face tattoo! 😀 So if you haven’t tried it yet, I really think you should. I know it’s beta and there are still lots of glitches to swim through, but it’s very promising and I look forward to the next release.

Here are some important links about the new viewer:

  • I have tried the new viewer tonight, and i’m totally crazy because i have activated the shadow :/ … my eyes Poetic Color disappears … it’s terrific, i have black eyes like a demon lol

Though, the viewer is beautiful, and navigation more easy 🙂

  • Thank you for the link back Strawberry 🙂 glad it was helpful.

    hey Berry 😀

I’m wondering if that problem happens with all picture formats. have you tried jpeg or any other format ?

  • Maybe this would help… when you try to take a picture in really high resolution (like 5000 x 2944) unclick “Constrain Proportions” before taking the picture, I mean, click it to make the proportions match and then unclick and refresh, this way the picture will look good.

I was having the same problem with the old viewer, maybe becuase i’m in a Mac, or maybe for some weird reason of my graphics card… but this way i made it work good.

  • Oh, and about the glitches in the water… i had the same problem too… with old and new viewer. I think it’s becuase the water reflections work in the size of your window and if you take a picture over that size the reflections is smaller that the picture itself then it just repeats to fit the new size…

  • Thank you Mr. Crimson, I think you are right. If I uncheck constrain proportions then I don’t get any glitches UNLESS there is water involved. 🙁 That sucks.

    Thank you <3

  • Raul is right; I discovered this myself yesterday. I don’t know about the water issue, but that may be because you have it set to 6000 pixels. I get excellent pictures normally at just 3000 width, and I need to shrink them down to 1000 before I publish them. (My blog shrinks those down even farther, to approx. 600.)

    Hi Strawberry, same problem here.
But maby only mac users have this? When water is involved you just can’t get it right. Unhappy to use the old viewer again but hopefully they will fix this in the next update.
