Yesterday I did a tutorial showing how you can move and position an avatar on a sim where you don’t have rez rights. The link to that is here: Moving Avatars. After I did that post, a few people on different social networks shared how you can move and position yourself on a sim where you can’t rez. I am attaching both videos in this post to make it easier and I’ll also give the instructions below that.
Today my friend Mr. DavidThomas Scorbal messaged me and asked me if I knew about the trick where you can move and position another avatar without the use of a posestand or other object. When he told me this, at first I was like, “WHAT? YOU LIE!” You have NO idea how much I have struggled with this. I shoot clients on location all the time and sometimes they want their picture taken on sims where I have no rez rights. That’s ok, no problem because I can use my handy dandy PoseAnywhere HUD to pose them. However, what do I do when I need to position them a certain way? I need to ask them to rotate, or move forward, or back or to the side and this goes on for about 10 to 15 minutes until I have them in the exact spot I want them at.
This method is extremely time consuming and also frustrating at times. Now, David just showed me a trick today that will make my life SO much easier so I just had to share with you guys. I did a video tutorial because I figured this was the best way to show you guys. This is the link to the video but it’s also embedded below: http://youtu.be/VvsHhi7ddQM
David also did a video tutorial on this, in case you want to see his as well to understand it better: http://youtu.be/pqT868Ss6OE
In case you are not able to see the videos, I’ll write down some quick steps below:
Make sure the avatar that you are trying to position has given you their edit rights under permissions.
Bring up the edit box by pressing “ctrl 3″ or by editing any object.
Once the edit window is open, right click on the avatar you want to position and you should see arrows pop up so you can position and rotate them.
Position them and take your snapshot. This will also work great with group or couples portraits to make the avatars fit properly rather than adjusting the pose itself.
I hope my explanation was simple and easy to understand. Feel free to email me if you have any questions!
UPDATE: Watch part 2 of this tutorial with information on how to move your OWN avatar, details here: Moving your own Avatar!

Before I start talking about today’s Monday Meme I just wanted to address something. Every week I have someone messaging me saying that what I’m doing every Monday on my blog is not a meme, it’s a blog challenge. I absolutely understand that these are not “typical” internet memes, especially the ones I’ve been doing lately. I admit, I did start with typical BLOG memes that consist of a series of questions that people can answer, but now it has evolved into poetry and other challenges. I don’t mind that because it’s something different and refreshing to see and read. So from now on, to make those that are annoyed with the fact that I keep calling them memes, lol, I will change it up and sometimes write meme, or challenge or nothing at all. I do however like the idea of calling these “My Monday Memes” because it has a nice ring to it and keeps me disciplined about doing them every Monday.
Anyhow, now that we have gotten the explanation out of the way, let me go on to the challenge for this week. This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time, but I was afraid it might be frowned upon for copyright reasons or something. However, I’ve spoken to a few people about it and since I’m just inspired by the movie poster and not actually copying anything directly from it (I’ve used my own images, logos, wording and even changed the fonts) and also since I am not “selling” anything, it should be ok. My SL movie poster is of course inspired by “There’s Something about Mary” one of my favorite movies!
Monday Meme Instructions: The challenge for this week is to create a movie poster for your SL Avatar or SLife. You can base it off an original movie poster or think of a completely new idea of your own! Get creative and have some fun with it! Remember to leave your link in this meme’s comments so others can come by and see your poster as well.
A big thank you to Rogan Diesel of Diesel Works for making this custom pose for me. It is really hard to get the avatar to bend like this without a lot of distortion and I also had to adjust my shape quite a bit. I had to make my legs really small and put my arms at 100 to reach my knees, lol! I definitely won’t be wearing this adjusted shape anywhere. Check out Diesel Works for more awesome poses and props! Thanks Rogan! <3
So that's the challenge for today. I hope you guys participate, I think it'll be a riot to see everyone's posters! Please remember that you can participate in any of the memes/challenges at any time. You’ll find them all under my Blog Challenges category along with other memes and challenges I’ve done over the years. If you put your poster on flickr, feel free to share it in the Blog Memes Flickr Group.

The Materials project has reached the Beta Viewer. What is the Materials Project you ask? The Materials Project brings in specific shaders into Second Life which will make objects appear more realistic.
I wanted to show this realism in a video because I felt that was the best way to capture it. Here is the link to the video and I’m also embedding it below. http://youtu.be/LO5vVyoMHJE
To view materials-ready items in Second Life right now, you can follow these simple steps:
Check “Advanced Lighting Model” under Me > Preferences > Graphics
Now if you wear any materials-ready items, you should be able to see it.
Damien Fate of FATEwear has already released swim trunks for men that are materials-ready. I am not sure which other designers have released materials-ready items as well. I have asked my friends on plurk about it, if you know of any, please let me know in the comments, I would love to check them out.
This is definitely a feature I’m enthusiastic and excited about. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on more materials ready items to play with!
I also wanted to share some other informative posts about the Materials Project which I think you guys will find useful:
Also, this is my first post for Avatar Blogger Month. I’m not sure if I’ll make all 30 posts but I will definitely give it a try. I hope you guys are participating too! Have a great weekend! <3
So you’re walking along the beach, kicking at the sand and you notice a magic lamp hidden under a rock. You pull it out and rub it, because what else would you do with a magic lamp? Out pops a genie and is ready to grant you three wishes, any three wishes to do with your SLife.
Meme instructions: Share three things you wish for or about your Second Life. They could be things you wish from Linden Lab, things you would like to have inworld, things you would like to do, or any kind of wishes you may have. Remember to leave your link in this meme’s post so others can come by and read your answers as well!
I wish Second Life didn’t have such a bad reputation. I admit to feeling pretty ashamed at times about admitting that I’m on Second Life. Very few of my closest family and friends know that I have an SL avatar and only a handful know about my blog and all the activities I do here. I haven’t even told my parents about it. I hate having to feel that it’s something I should be ashamed of or I need to hide because I don’t want everyone to think I’m some kind of pervert (even though I kind of am) and only here for the sex and porn (even though that may be partially true). I recently started a relationship in real life and I can see it getting serious eventually and I admit I am dreading telling him anything about my virtual life. I’m not even sure how I’ll approach the subject. So yeah, I wish whenever there was any kind of new documentary about SL they didn’t always focus on people making sex furniture or making it seem like sex is all there is to SL. I wish Linden Lab would think of a better marketing scheme to promote this virtual world. I would love it if people saw the more creative and inventive side of SL. Kind of like what Draxtor Despres shows in The Drax Files.
I wish I had more talent and could create things in this world. I really want to be able to make a custom skin for myself or perhaps a cute summery mesh dress. And sometimes I get really jealous of people (*cough*Zaara*cough*) when they create these totally amazing things that are just perfection and all I wanna do is kick their ass, just joking! (not really) At least I get to wear it and look pretty though? But all joking aside, I do sometimes wish I could create my own custom skin and it would be wicked and I could totally look like Lakshmi Menon.
I wish the SL viewer was more stable. I guess this really depends on your computer as well, but sometimes it’s so difficult to even stay logged in. Over the years I have upgraded my computer a few times, I’ve tried several different kinds of viewers, the officials, third party, etc… but I have never been completely satisfied with one viewer. There has always been some kind of glitch or crashing or some other technical issue. Then when all of that is not happening we have rolling restarts that stalk me to every sim I go to and lag issues and so on and so forth. I don’t complain much about it though and I understand technical issues can be a pain to sort out and everyone will have a different experience with each viewer because of their system setup but how I do wish there was one magical viewer out there that would always work perfectly, would never make me crash and give me awesome shadows with no glitches at really high resolutions!
So these are my top three wishes in Second Life. I do have lots more but the genie only let us have three so no cheating! Just joking, you can share more than three if you like, I won’t even judge you for it! (maybe)
Please remember that you can participate in any of the memes at any time. You’ll find them all under my Blog Challenges category along with other memes and challenges I’ve done over the years.
Thank you and have a fabulous week! <3
EDIT: I wasn’t planning on doing this since not everyone shares images with their memes but I was requested so here it is, a flickr group for my blog memes. Feel free to add your pictures that you’ve been using for my memes if you are sharing them on flickr. There are a lot of people that are not doing pictures or even on flickr so I know this won’t be a very active group but it’s there in case anyone wants to use it. <3
