Love Lasts Forever

love lasts forever (click here for a raw shot)

Have you guys ever fallen in love and you know that no matter what happens you will most probably love that person forever? That’s happened to me and I still love him and I’m pretty sure I always will, even though we are no longer together. I don’t know if he’s “the one that got away” but I do think that he’s definitely one I will never stop loving.

Speaking of love, to celebrate Valentine’s Day, Linden Lab is asking you guys to share images to their Second Life Official Flickr Group with the tag “SLVDAY2016” for a chance to be featured in some banner campaigns. There are some submission requirements, so make sure to click over to their blog post for all the details.

Today both of my avatars are wearing Catwa mesh heads but this time I’m using skin appliers that have a bit of an aged look, which I thought added some more character to the avatars.

Recently there was a discussion on why most residents choose to look like perfect barbie/ken dolls when SL is such a massive playground and we can be anything we want to be. Most people responded by saying because that’s what they want to look like, there was really no specific reason. For me, I just feel like I should be able to look like a perfect doll in at least ONE of my lives, lol! But it is wonderful to be able to change up my look and dress up as anything I want to every once in a while. This is why I love SL! What does your SL avatar look like most of the time?

  • I’ve always kind of heard very passive aggressive comments about the “blonde, Barbie avatars.” I’m blonde, slender, and (in my opinion) pretty cute in SL. I have noooo desire to have a huge butt, or huge boobs. I don’t want to look messed up because “flaws are beauty.” My avatar is how I feel inside most of the time and I like it that way. I will continue being a petite, blonde, pretty cute avatar probably for the rest of my SLife, which suits me just fine!

  • I actually wrote a post that in some ways sort of touched on this… when Mallory Cowen of LAQ released her adorable Elise skin that had the double chin.

I have had body image issues and eating disorder issues in the past, and while I do sometimes enjoy the perfection of SL, I also kind of have always wanted to see more… realistic skins/faces, too. So I love the appliers you’re using here. And the picture you did is lovely, too. <3

  • This is one of my most favorite pics of you, Berry. And I understand what are you talking about. I guess woman will continue to love “him” until she wants to. It’s really hard to forget everything and start over, need time and patience.
What about perfect dolls. Well, everyone has it’s own vision about being perfect, some want to look like others, some – unique. I see that tendency in RL too. No matter what others say or wear, main is how u feel in look you chose. If it makes you happy – that’s it. Being in harmony with yourself, what can be better 🙂

  • Oh i remember that plurk. I think it was interesting, but the way was written looked a bit judgemental, imho.
Btw i agree on the fact that one of the best (if not THE best) thing about SL is that you can look the way you want. I dunno if my av looks like a doll (i don’t think so, i’ve never been blonde and i don’t have that “sad/pouty” mouth that i see everywhere, and is also chubby-ish) but it’s a reflection of the things i like: why i have to be human if i can be whatever i want to be (and i can’t IRL)? So i’ve never been human since my first day: i started as neko, now my “normal” me is elf/fae, but i have also other various kind of forms (a sidhe -faeries of the irish folklore-, a mermaid, a gynoid,a faun, and i’m planning other forms too).
I have a lot of issues with my RL appearance, so at least in my SL i wanna look pretty 😀

It’s okay to always love someone. I’m sure we all have that 1 or 2 people we will always love no matter what.

I think the real problem is, there is not enough camaraderie amongst women. We need to stop tearing eachother down about our looks and high five one another. Everyone is beautiful in their own way. God makes no mistakes.. Ok you know the rest of the song!!!

I think our looks in SL represent our true selves. Also the things we do like art, photography, styling, sim design, etc. all show our inner beauty.

So sweet, what a lovely post! I think you’re right Berry, there’s always thst one person you’ll love forever <33

When styling my avatar I definitely prefer a certain look, I don't know why really, but I make her portray the rl me in a lot of ways 🙂 I think part of the real me shines through, for example in rl I never wear all black outfits, and neither does my avi. I have brunette hair and so does she (or pink as it's my fave colour)!

    An interesting thought 🙂

Those aged skins sre stunning also <33

Your picture is very beautiful. I like the soft smiles.

I would like to wear a mature skin if I could find one for the mesh heads I own or if my favorit skinartist would offer one. I guess I should ask her for it. 🙂
For the “normal” head I have wrinkle- tattoos already and they make the face look mor alive.

  • To paraphrase a song .. If love is real it won’t fade away … I beleive anyway even when your time together is over. I don’t think we stop loving. Idk maybe its different for all of us. I have a few men that i still love very much that are not in my life anymore.

I Love the older look on those heads… as far as appearance in Sl, I would have to say my appearance represents me though in rl I don’t sprout antlers or wings that anyone can see anyway. I love that we can do anything with our looks in sl and change them as often as we like.

I think in some ways owe use our sl appearance to represent or embrace things we like in our rl but just can’t or aren’t able to portray there.

Love this post– where did you get the wrinkle appliers? I would really like to add a few to my mesh head. I have only found them for the standard avatar.

I love your pic. One of the things I love the most about SL (and I do love it, most of the time) is we can be anything we want to be. Usually I look similar (although much more perfect- no eye bags!!) as I do in real life. I think it has a lot to do with the clothes and fashion. I will wear hair and clothes (and wings) in SL that I can’t get away with in RL due to my job and sometimes I will switch to another avatar that suits my mood or how I feel like being seen at the moment. I have a variety of avatar looks (child, fairies, animals, & really hideous avatars with deformed shapes) for those times and one of my favorites is the Dinkies Kitty. Its just so adorable! I like wearing it and I enjoy how it seems to make people smile and be more friendly. Most of my alternate avatars are meant to make people smile or laugh. SL is supposed to be fun.. no matter what you look like. For a majority of people, I think, fashion is important in SL so it makes sense we have more avatars that can wear the fashions the designers make. Oof.. I wrote ya a book, lol. Good luck all on the SL photo contest.

  • Months ago I bought a fairy outfit (500L or so), when I wear that outfit.. some guys chase me and asks for the same thing… be my whore?, sex?, and all that stuff that we know. I decline the offer… no way, i’m not interested. However, suddenly Im banned from the land, or invisible forces pushes my avatar here and there…

When I wear a barbie outfit … skirt and top, blonde hair, blue eyes, stilettos …. Suddenly, there’s no more guys pushing my avatar, and no more bans from sims.

Conclusion.. I know many people wear human shapes and outfits just to avoid beign annoyed by these haters and griefers.Morever, I have ben banned from many sims just for wearing an anime avi.

Having truly loved few romantic partners, I can only say you will never stop loving them. This does not keep you from loving someone else later on down the line just as deeply (if not more so). Of course, all lessons learned and advice given on this topic is autobiographical. 😛

I try to make my avatar look like me whenever possible. I do fantasy RP, so she doesn’t look like me all the time (I don’t have glowing eyes or scales, obviously). Around shopping or hanging out with friends, there is the pale, freckled face with little to no makeup looking out behind red hair and glasses. I normally dress quite casually in RL, so my avatar is usually seen in t-shirts and jeans. I do not buy anything for my regular avatar I wouldn’t consider or like wearing RL. The possible exception to this would be shoes that would normally be uncomfortable in the real world, but I would love to wear. I’m not interested in looking like a doll. I’m interested in creating. 🙂

Okay well I am an alcoholic and I found SL after I sobered up. My counsellor at the time wanted me to do things that use to make me happy. Well playing Barbie dolls was one of the things I use to love playing as a child. Me and my sister would play for hours. We had clothes, houses, cars, etc and we had a green rug in the playroom where we would draw roads with chalk.

Yup my avatar is exactly like a Barbie doll, and I will never apologize for it. I have a mesh body, a mesh head and am always finding ways to make myself look better. My avatar is not a reflection of me personally and that is not why I joined SL to begin with.

I also love decorating my land and my houses. I am not even the greatest at that and maybe not even the greatest at dressing my Barbie, but I just enjoy it so much.

I personally would never criticize or judge anyone on how their avatar looks or how they choose to play SL. At the end of the day if you happy then that is all that matters.

  • My avatar is BETTER than Barbie because “Our Wardrobe is Better than Barbie’s”.

As most know, I’m usually redheaded and very classic in style in SL That’s what I like. But sometimes I go blonde, or non-human, or become a pastel pony or urchin or something….just because.

Berry, why didn’t you tell me you were writing a post about me? That’s so sweet. You don’t have to be shy about it. ♥

  • Thank you all so much for sharing your thoughts. This is what I love about SL, we can be whatever we want to be!

    Catero…oh how I miss your brattyness 😛 lol <3
