Maitreya AutoHide BodyFaces Tutorial
Maitreya AutoHide BodyFaces allows creators to place a script in their mesh clothing, that hides the parts of the body that need to be hidden for that item. When the mesh clothing item gets attached, it will automatically hide the sections that were programmed in the script to hide. This makes it easier for us to change clothing without having to mess with the alpha hud at all. If your clothing creator is not using this script for their clothes, you can create it yourself for your favorite outfits and never have to mess with the alpha hud again. You can put the script inside any prim and place it in the item folder so when wearing the outfit, just wear the prim as well and voila, no need to use the alpha hud!
The Autohiding kit is available at the Maitreya Mainstore, right above the Lara Mesh Body vendor and the Developer Kit. Anyone can pick it up for FREE, not just creators, and use it to create scripts for their clothing and outfits.
Once you open the kit, inside the folder you will find the following items:
The instructions are short, concise and very easy to follow. Nobody showed me how to do it and I was able to just follow the instructions on my own and create an invisible prim to wear with one of my favorite outfits pictured below.
Here is how I did it:
- I right-clicked on the Maitreya AutoHide BodyFaces V2 0.3 script and made it no transfer (according to the instructions notecard)
- I rezzed a prim on the floor and dragged the script inside it.
- I made a copy of the Maitreya AutoHide Config Card and all of the bits that needed to be hidden I changed to 1. In order to figure out which ones should be hidden and which should be visible, I used the Maitreya Mesh Body – Alpha Sections Applier (pictured here) to apply the alpha sections tattoo on my body and that made it easier to see which areas I needed to hide and change in the notecard. Along with the applier, I also used the Maitreya_AlphaZones_Upper image and the Maitreya_AlphaZones_Lower image to figure out the configuration. It took me about 20 minutes to figure it out. This is my configuration for the Zaara Chandni Lehenga I am wearing in the image.
- I saved the notecard and dragged it into the box as well. The script worked and the notecard disappeared. I then made the box transparent from the texture tab in the edit menu and then I picked it up, placed it in my Zaara Chandni Lehenga folder and wore it. The AutoHide script worked within a second and all my bits that were showing disappeared. Please note, when using this script the hidden sections will always be added to whatever someone already had hidden on the mesh body alpha HUD. To start fresh with each outfit or item, you first need to press ‘show all’ on the mesh body alpha HUD.
Creators can do this with all items they make from now on. It doesn’t work as well as fitted mesh does (if the fitmesh is designed for that body) but it does make it a lot easier to change clothing and not worry about messing with the alpha hud. It definitely helps speed up the process of changing your clothes which is something that the introduction of mesh bodies made a lot more complicated. So hopefully, this neat little feature that Maitreya has incorporated will save everyone a lot of time.
One important thing to note for creators, the code textures in the folder named Maitreya_AlphaZones_Upper image and the Maitreya_AlphaZones_Lower image are both full perm, so you can save them to your computer and place them on the body you use in your 3D program, to show which areas can be hidden. That way you can, if you want, make sure your design works well with the Maitreya alpha options.
I also wanted to add a little note about the Maitreya Mesh Clothing Designer Kit. A lot of people have been wondering and asking when it will be released. It’s currently in production and will be sent to approved designers very soon. When I get more updates about this, I’ll make sure to share them here.
I hope you found this tutorial informative and not too confusing. I tried to keep it simple, but really, the instructions notecard that comes with the kit is very straight forward and easy to follow. The outfit I’m wearing in the first image is the new Maitreya swimsuit released at Summerfest. It is fitmesh and made to fit the Maitreya Lara body. It does not have nor need the autohide feature because the fitmesh works so well on top of the body. A lot of the older Maitreya items are either getting the AutoHide feature (such as the updated jeans and the updated leather pants) or are being reworked for the Maitreya body. If you have purchased any of these items in the past, you can head to the mainstore and hit the redelivery terminal.

Another great Tutorial, I was going to pick one up and work through it today, and now I know how, seems awesome.
As Maitreya allows any to remove scripts of a copy, this can be really useful if you do it for a copy of the body and then just remove the scripts, you have to had a body for each outfit but at least you can be unscripted, some that is very important whe going to public events.
One of the disadvantages with the mesh body is that one constantly has to use the hud, which is so time consuming. It was easy with the old body, just had to click a saved outfit folder and voila, done! So thanks for this, will try it for sure.

When I went to Maitreta to try on the demo of Lara, I have wondered what’s that kit about and have realized that it was for designers. So I trashed it. Hoenstly I didn’t take time to see what it really is. But today I have seen your post and that’s a very helpful tutorial. Thank you.

Kara, if the mesh item you own is no modify, you can put the script in a separate prim, like I did, and just put it in the item folder and then wear it with the item and that will still work.
Ariella (Dcope.dapto) has made a freely available spreadsheet that let’s you click on the areas you want to hide and then automatically generates the configuration to put into the autohide NC. This makes it a little bit easier since it takes the guess work out of what the appropriate label is for a specific alpha spot.

I use a small seashell bracelet for creating mind and just put on the bracelet as part of my outfit. Be sure and remember to click the button to “show all” before running the autohide scripts since it adds to what’s already turned off.

Once I have gotten the body the way I want it for a particular outfit, I just make a copy of the body then delete the scripts in the body I am wearing and put THAT body in the folder with the outfit and then copy and paste as a link in my outfit folder. I guess that is pretty much the same thing?? I fail to see what advantage taking the time to do this would have? Am I missing something? I was hoping it would give us a little more control over what is hidden in the body. It seems like no matter what I do, my dresses are just a little too short and when I click on the part of the HUD to get rid of my leg, then there is a gap between my leg and my dress or my leg at the hemline is too large and sticks out at the sides of the dress. I have, at times, just reduced the musculature of my lower body to get my legs to “fit” in the dress without using the HUD, but this makes my legs look so thin. As wonderful and detailed as the HUD is, I am hoping that at some point in the future it will be even MORE detailed…sometimes I wish the little blocks….especially around the hemline area on the leg were HALF as thick as they currently are. This script thing will not help with that, will it?

El Firecaster – The copy of the body and what alphas are turned on are independent of each other. You’ll be able to see that by turning some alphas on and then changing to a different copy of your body. The alphas won’t change.
The other part about the hemline example isn’t fixed by the autohide feature. As you say, that issue is really about the size and granularity of the alpha blocks you can turn on and off.
One of the problems I have with alpha blocks is that some that are already small are really hard for me to click on to turn on/off. While I’d also like to see more granularity, I’ll have a lot of trouble with smaller blocks. However, with tools like what Ariella made for working on the autohide configuration in a spreadsheet, the smaller granularity would be easier.

Kantbe – I too have problems with some of the smaller areas on the HUD…especially the nips and such….:) I am just not sure how else to solve my problem. I have not tried adjusting my overall height….or my leg length maybe????…idk.
As far as the body goes….once you delete the scripts, that body will always be the same, regardless of the last changes made on the HUD when trying on a different body. I use it like this all the time and it works for me. I just have to make sure that I always make a copy of the body before deleting the scripts. (Hands too…I once deleted the scripts while wearing the Maitreya hands not thinking that the scripts would be deleted in the hands too and then I could not change their skin tone anymore…had to go to Maitreya and get another copy of them.)
So if this will not let me change the alpha anymore than I already can, I still fail to see the need to go through all this script stuff, when I can just delete them from the body once I get it the way I want it and save that copy of the body in the folder with my outfit, making sure it is saved as a link in my outfit folder. It works…really…it does.
Have you tried this, Berry? What would be the benefit of doing it through the auto hide thingie? Just wondering if I am missing something?
OK…I found this at the Mesh Body Addicts Website. It says that the way I described WILL work for the Lara Body (Maitreya) BUT that in the event that there is an update to the body, then all the saved bodies will not work and will have to be redone. I don’t consider that TOO much of a problem, as most of my outfits are ones that I wear for blogging and seldom wear again…so while I may wear them many different times over say…a 2 week period, it is not often that I will go back and wear them…say 6 months later. SO if I had to change one every now and then it would not be that big of a deal for me. It might be though…to some of you. El Firecaster: What I think is beneficial that you don’t mention is that if you save the body as you do, without scripts, you can’t change the skin, and the last skin you wore will be on that body. For anyone who changes skins even semi regularly, it makes sense to save the alpha configuration versus the entire body configuration, because changing the skin can be just as complex as changing the alpha (head, hands, feet, ears, body, etc.).
Regarding the sections of thigh/arm hideable by the alpha hud, it’s dependent on the number of textures available in a given body part. If it was broken up more, you’d actually have more pieces that make up the body, and with so many textures going, it does add to lag.
Yes, Olaenka. You are right. Once I put a look together and save it as an outfit I want that one particular skin for it and do not usually change it. So I can see where that would be a problem if I changed skins with an already preset outfit. How do you handle the hemline issue? Do you have any problems with it? Or any suggestions as to how I could “fix” it?
Great post, and autohide is a really important element in gaining a wider acceptance of mesh bodies – the ‘dressing issue’ is one you and many others have previously highlighted, and autohide partially addresses that.
One thing I have found useful is putting the autohide config into a tiny HUD that loads on the side of my screen. In addition to holding the Maitreya autohide script, it also holds a tiny script that waits for a short time (a few seconds) and then detaches the HUD.
This allows you to load the autohide data when you wear the outfit but avoids having scripts clinging to your avatar constantly – once that configuration is delivered, the script serves no more purpose and is best removed. The detaching script allows you to click the HUD to have it remain in place, which is useful when making outfits.
The HUD / script is trivial, and I’m happy to share with anyone who is interested.

it is now 2018, and the Maitreya Auto Hide system is much easier than it was at the time this blog was created. I wondered why i didn’t understand it at the time. I recently went and got the new Maitreya Auto Hide system, and was surprised how easy it was this time to understand.
